Larger fuel tank?

Larger fuel tank?
My wish for Christmas is to be able to buy a bike specific fuel tank and be able to ride the back country without constantly worring about the amount of fuel remaining for the return trip. I emailed Clarke Manufacturing the following.
Happy Holidays,
I purchased a 2006 KLX250S dual sport this past summer. Living here in S.W. Colorado provides some of the best trail and fire road access imaginable. The biggest drawback to this great bike is the fuel range. It really needs your help with one of the quality tanks that you manufacture. I know of a great bunch of guys (here and abroad) that all own the KLX250S @ www.kawasakiforums.com. Some have added an IMS with minor mods including having to replace the stock radiator fans, move the coil out of the way, and reroute the wiring harness, or the Acerbis tank. Moving some wiring is no big deal but I would like to keep the stock petcock w/ reserve and radiator fans. Aftermarket shrouds shouldn't be a big deal if needed to get a decent fuel capacity. 3 to 3.5 gallons would really help this bike and make it a true dual sport. End of Email.
Who knows, if they get motivated by some forum members who are also interested in a larger capacity, we might provide enough influence. Afterall, look what happened with the USC skid plate.
Thanks again tefer & cwgoff for your efforts in executing this and not just letting it die on the vine.
Happy Holidays to you all.

RE: Larger fuel tank?
Hey, the skidplate thing with Utah Sport Cycle worked out really well, so why not? And I'm interested in a large fuel tank anyway, so sure - I'm up for a group buy! [sm=smiley20.gif]
I just took a peek at their web site (http://www.clarkemfg.com) and it looks like they make pretty good quality tanks. A KLX250S model would round out their product line quite nicely!
Is there anybody near Molalla, OR that could loan their bike for measurements / prototyping? (I'd offer, but coming from Ontario, I'd have to fill my dinky little stock tank way too many times!!! )
(BTW - Good e-mail, Matt, that pretty much captures what I'm looking for as well!)

RE: Larger fuel tank?
I'm hating my Acerbis 3.7... I'll buy a Clarke tank and dump this hunk o junk anyday.
Turns out the 3.7 Acerbis only improved my overall capacity by .6 gallons, due to it's poor design.
Count me in.

Now that's what I'm talkin about! Keep e'm coming people. I just sent another email to sales@clarkemfg.com. Content here:
Dear Sales and R&D,
I emailed you earlier today about the possibility of a larger capacity tank for the KLX250S. This is probably the #1 complaint that I have heard about this bike. I then posted a copy of that email on www.kawasakiforums.com. It appears there is some interest/views from others regarding this matter. One of the things that drew me to your tanks is that the designs look like they belong on that particular bike. As I previously stated, this product is needed, wanted........... and we have cash. Seriously though, If you go to the forum site just scroll down to "Kawasaki Dual Purpose Models" and click into the sub-forum...KLX250S. Please check out the topic...Larger Fuel Tank? and view others comments. You will see that there is already an individual (user name ScottV) who lives in Portland that has graciously and unselfishly agreeded to loan his personal ride to see this happen. I hope your holiday was good, and you are all in great spirits.
Thanks,
Matt and Many others! End of email here.
And a special group thanks to ScottV for the offer of his bike!
Keep posting and we'll see where this is on Monday the 27th. I will follow up with a call if I haven't heard anything.
For those interested, the website is www.clarkemfg.com.
I will now attempt to PM ScottV

I just fired-off an email to Clark. Maybe if enough people do so, we can get some action.
