KX vs. KLX

KX vs. KLX
Is there anyone who owns both or has rode both and how does the klx compair to the KX. I've had my klx for a little over a year but I almost always just ride offroad on a mx style track so I started contemplating getting a KX250F. I know the KX would be more maintanace but would it be worth it with it beind less weight, better suspension, and more parts available. I know I could make the KLX better offroad but would it be worth it spending the money to hop up the KLX or trade up for a KX??
Whats your guy's thoughts?

The klx will never be a kx regardless of mods. I would suggest buying a nice cheap used kx for say 2k or less that you could resell for the same amount and ......beat the snot out of her on your track and see what you think. Then either sell both and get a new ktm xc (sorry couldn't resist) or sell the kx or klx.

KX vs KLX = apples vs oranges
Two very different bikes with very different purposes. But it sounds like the KX might be more suited to your purposed. Like Finger suggested, see if you can find a decent used one to try out. If you like it, and don't find yourself on the KLX much, then sell both and get a newer model KX.
But depending on your state, you might not be able to get the KX plated, if that is a concern.

Don't forget a 125's are cheap easy to find and very easy to maintain. Plus the are the backbone of learning how to go fast in mx I know the 250f's are faster but on a budget you can't beat a 125.

i got a cr250 at my place and i own an xr250... same thing and a kx and a klx (if you consider the brand and orientation) and i can say this...
kx250
pros: light, quick, easy to fix, cheap/easy to upgrade and easier to throw around.
cons: 1/3 the gas mileage, topend only lasts 2000 miles (2500-3000 if ridden lightly), requires lots more matinence, mix the oil and gas, not street legal in most states anymore.
klx250
pros: street legal, 60mpg+, no gas mixing, topend will last as long as you will, much less matinence and youll spend less $ over time (gas and parts)
cons: no where near as quick off the line, half the horsepower, heavier, lots harder to fix and parts are a bit pricier
quick exapmle of the parts thing:
full 2-stroke exhaust system, fmf glod series fatty header and powercore2 arrestor = $346
full 4-stroke system, fmf power bomb header, stainless steel mid pipe and a Q2 arrestor = $582
but that's only if you go top of the line.

I'd have to disagree here; a stock 125 makes nearly 8-9 more horsepower than any stock MX250 four-stroke. The 2-stroke is also lighter. With equal riders on both bikes, the 2-stroke will clock the 4-stroke quite easily. Do you think that if the greenies had kept quiet, that everyone would still be on heavy 4-strokes? Don't think so. It's alot easier to make a 2-stroke fast than it is a 4-stroke and it's way cheaper.

Josh Hansen's Pro Circuit YZ125 was putting out 38 horsepower in 2002, yes 2002.
I've read that a Dynojetted 08 KX250F will put out about 34HP.
Go figure hey!
2 strokes still rock.
REALLY HARD.
Torque is over rated when your bike only weighs 95KG.
