Finally goin to buy a set of ***** for my 09 klx 250s. I'm hoping ***** will help with some of the sand on the two tracks. I've been goin to camp and getting the crap scared outa me everytime I go. As long as i'm on actual dirt i'm ok, but the whole reason I bought the bike was to cruise two tracks around camp etc... along with some single track around Tamahawk trails. Anyhow, I'm looking at the Trackmaster 2 with ultra HD tubes and rim locks. I've spent days trying to find a good tire combo, but can't find a front tire anyone seems to like. I'm thinking of getting TM front and back. Any advise on tires. The stuff that's causing me the most problems in the 2 inches of sugar sand on the road.

I'll admit to really liking the D606 on the front. I know what you mean though about nobody really liking anything on the front. I finally just got the front and rear 606 and am very happy with the off-road manners. On-road the rear is noisy but both are sure footed.

I ride in everything from sand to rocks to soft dirt to slickrock. I'm quite pleased with the Trakmaster on both front and rear, though I hear some here don't like the front. I run both of mine tubeless, so I don't know if maybe that's muddying the water a bit, but they work great on my KLX out west in all manner of terrain. A side benefit is how inexpensive the Trakmasters are and not bad wear for harsh conditions.

The only two tires I've had on the front are the stockers and a Geomax 71 (hard compound). Stock rear and 606. I've about decided I like a softer carcass than either the Geomax or the 606, and will go to DOT Trials tires, or Kenda 270's. I think the extra cushion of the softer carcass is a good idea. The downside to a softer carcass is they don't ride well when flat like the Geomax or 606...but, they are easier to change in the field! Otherwise, I have no performance complaints with the Geomax or the 606...just think this little bike might ride a bit smoother with another choice...my KLR650 does well on Kenda 270's...and it's significantly heavier.

The stock 09 tires suck every where except dry pavement. I had TM front and rear on my old XT350, Never again. On pavement they felt like riding on wet ice. In the dirt they are great. I had michelin S12's on my street legal WR, they did great on just about everything but they are not DOT. For my next tire I am going to try the Michelin AC10. I ride 50/50.
I don't think the KLX needs rim locks.

Interesting... I've been watching all this tire talk, and a lot of people really like the 606's. Seems Kawi got their act together on the '09 KLX 250. Mine came stock with D606 front and rear.

I wonder if the dealer did a swap. My '09 came with Dunlop 605.
