Talking KLX331s

Decided to start my Kustom kraft Big bore conversion today. I picked up some essentials like oil/filters, tools and plenty of paper towels and started tearing into the lil KLX. First I checked my valves and they were within spec at 5,190mi. Pulled the head and jug next, I was surprised to see an absolutley perfect piston and cylinder wall. I guess running synthetic oil and changing it every 700mi payed off. Got the new piston on and thats about where I stoped for today. Got a few pics with my camera phone so you guys wouldn't complain

While I'm here I might as well ask a few questions. How important is it to get your valve clearances paired up between sets? For example my intake valves were .152 and .102 from what I could tell with my el-chepo feeler gauges. Does this matter much?

Thanks guys I've enjoyed reading your posts and am forever grateful for all your help. If you have any Q's I'll do my best to answer them.

As long as they are in spec they will be right. Have fun

Isn't that .102 at the tight end of spec's? You should change the shim now while you have access to it.

Ride on

Does everyone see the well designed squish areas on the stock piston, front and back? Can someone please design an oversize piston with this feature and not just a round reverse dish ?

Looks like your running a bit rich, which is better than lean. Maybe the big bore will sort that out. Valve adjustment between pairs? You would have to have the patience of Jobe, in specs is ok. If you have to err be on the loose side.

i got a question, when you get the oversized boar cylinder do you get a larger head gasket and the comustion chamber doam on the had will have flat edges where the boar is bigger, wont that effect the running performance, or be a problem down the road?

and just to follow up as quote on the other guy it doesnt matter in a four storke if its lean, because look what kawasaki does to meet emmisions in california, lean it out terribly to the point where it bearly runs.

I beg to differ with the lean it out till it barely runs. You run the risk of burning a hole in the piston due to excessively high combustion chamber temps.
