Default KLX300r TM36-68 Jetting

Hi all

Just bought a Mikuni tm36-68 pumper carb for my stock bore KLX300r, wondering if anyone has any jetting recommendations?
I am basically at sea level, and the temp is usually around 30 degrees.
I have an aftermarket muffler, and have done all the "free" mods already.
I tried contacting Mikuni, but they told me that its against company policy to recommend jet and needle sizes, because they sell the kit for 80 bucks.

Thanks ahead

See my sig line. KLX250 with a 351 kit so this should be close. However, I ride from around 2,800 feet and up so may be a tad lean for you...

This is my setup:Main Jet 130Pilot jet 15Needle Jet 568-P8Needle 9DZK6-50Clip in middle slotFloat Height 20mm at highest point. Set the pump to start squirting when the throttle starts moving. Set the squirt duration for the best throttle response.

Hi all, thanks for the suggestions!
I pulled the carb apart today, and had a look at the jetting
heres what i found:
Main jet:127.5
Pilot jet: 12.5
Needle jet 568 P-8
Needle clip: 2nd from top
Needle jet: 9DZH6-50
Float height: 19.4mm
The ap screw was 2 1/8 turns out

The idle RPM was around 3k, turned the screw out and got it to idle at 2.2k, but then it wouldn't start warm, and i had to turn it back in to start, then lower it again.
wouldnt even fire with the choke when cold

I tried moving the clip down one, just to see what would happen (still new to carbs). now it runs extremely roughly with the throttle about 1/3rd of the way. gonna move it back up before my next ride.

any suggestions? from what everyone else seems to be running, my carb is lean. the bike was popping heaps on decel, but seemed to have good pickup (could lift the front wheel in second). i was thinking of going into the bike shop and buying what brewster has, a 130 main, and the 15 pilot, or is every bike slightly different?

Have you tried adjusting the idle mixture (pilot) screw after changing the idle speed?

Start with the idle mixture screw 2 turns out from genteelly seated. With a warm engine and the idle speed near what you want, turn the mixture screw out until the engine slows down and then while counting the turns, turn the mixture screw in until the engine slows down. Half way between those two settings should be a good spot to leave the mixture screw. If you have to readjust the idle speed, repeat the process.
If the final position of the mixture screw is more than 3 turns out from seated, the pilot jet is too small. Less than 1 turn out, the pilot jet is too big. The mixture (pilot) screw and pilot jet run in parallel.

I moved the clip back, and it seemed to fix the 1/3 throttle problem. While i had the carb off, I also pointed the pump squirter directly towards the needle. Now it bogs slightly then fires up whenever I go from no throttle to some throttle. Only seems to happen at low rpm though, so could be normal.

I messed with the idle screw on the side, could only get the bike starting with it all the way in - 3/4 of a turn out. Any more, and it would fire, then die. Also the further out I got it, the easier it was to fire while warm.

It still wouldn't start with the choke on, but if I turn the idle screw out a bit, it fires then dies. it doesn't refuse to start anymore if I turn the choke off and reset the idle.

Gonna go mess with the idle pilot screw now.

Managed to get the idle screw 6 turns out and the bike still wasn't losing idle speed, but I stopped because I didn't want to unscrew it all the way. Set it back to 2 turns out and got 1 turn in, before it started dipping. That gives me an average of 3.5 or more turns out. Gonna go into the shop and buy a bigger pilot jet tomorrow, will post results.
