KLX250sf Concerns
Hello everyone!
I am in the market for a street legal enduro and I found a 2009 KLX250sf on Craigslist. I have a KX250F that I'm selling and I was wondering if the 250sf is going to be enough power (or equivalent to my 250f). I'd imagine it having less torque because it's more of an enduro than a motocross bike, but I'd definitely like to have that power going through the woods and junk. So, I guess my question is should I go ahead and go for a KLX250sf or save a little more for a higher CC KTM or DRZ? Thanks!

The klx will not be anywhere near the power and response of a KX in stock form. With a big bore and upgrades it will be close but that's added expense on top of the cost of the bike.
Also the SF model bikes are the super moto models and have 17" wheels setup for sportbike rubber and have less suspension travel and off road ability. You would want a KLX250S if you were looking for an enduro.
In the end I would say that you would be better off looking at something else like a KTM. I would steer clear of the DRZ as it is closer to the KLX than what it sounds like you are looking for and many would agree that the KLX is a better "dirt bike" than the DRZ especially both in stock form.

If you just want to have a street legal bike to mainly ride off road, the KTM. If you want low maintenance at the sacrifice of performance then I'd do the DRz or KLX. the DRz will be stronger just due to the added displacement.
Kind of a shame you can't simply dual sport the KX250F. About all they might need could be added oil capacity, otherwise if your state allowed self-built vehicles that would make for a strong dual sport for sure.

A modded DRZ or better still a KTM or a Husky is way better for street riding than a KLX sf.
My 331 SF is only just acceptable for SuMo street riding. It has Webcams, a big bore kit & way stiffer aftermarket springs (front & rear). The stock 250sf is underpowered & to soft IMO. On the mountain roads & twisties it's great but get my SF on a long straight fast highway, it feels really lacking in sustained top end speed.
The klx250sf is made in Thailand & very cheap to buy & maintain. If a new Husky or KTM's didn't have a 40% extra import duty slapped on them.....I would have bought one for sure, not an SF!!
