Question KLX250S Wheel Interchangeability

Hello All,

I have a 2019 KLX250S. I'm looking to get a second set of wheels, preferably a supermoto set but really just need correct hubs, can replace wheel hoop.

Will the wheels off a '07ish klx250 fit? I've found a couple on ebay. I know the speedo drive is the main issue.

Also, I do have a set of wheels a friend gave me off an '07 KX250. Would I be able to make that work? Obv would have to remove speedo for this option.

Looking for any insight,

Thanks.

Probably yes and no. Likely yes to the rear wheel but no on the front wheel, due to speedo drive differences between pre-09 and 09 up. Plus brake rotors, pre-09 rear was 20mm smaller diameter. If you get an SM front, it had about 40mm larger rotor. If you looked up some part numbers you would find most parts interchangeable in the wheel hub assembly. Same inner spacer and bearings. Hubs may have different numbers if anything about color or finish changed.

Same with the KX wheels. Look up the hub parts to see if they are same. Front hub likely would work, but as you said, no speedo.

I have been reading what I could find but seems I keep getting mix messages. Is the 06 and 07 front wheels different?
is it just a speedo issue or fitment issue. I bought a my 06 with supermoto set up but I am trying to get me a set of standard dual sport wheels without spending an arm and a leg. (NO not looking to trade).
its just hard to tell what models and what years I can use based off of the different forum post I have been reading. My bike already has a vaporspeedo on it, so a functioning speedo drive isn't an issue unless its a fiment issues.
I'm just all confused...

Yes, it has a mechanical cable driven speedo. The 09 they went to electronic and the hub end is machined differently.

You can use KLX650, KLX300 or KDX200/220 wheels usually able to be gotten at a reasonable price, the rim sizes aren't high demand like the 17" SM rims. Using the Vapor you can use some KX front hubs, they aren't machined for the speedo drive. You may need to do a different spacer size. You will run into a problem with the front rotor, the SM uses I think a 300mm rotor, the S uses a 260mm rotor. Different fork mount for the size. One possibility would be if you got a KLX650C front hub and rotor, it has a 300mm rotor. I know, I have one.

Thank you that helps to broaden my search, the bike I just bought it is an s. Previous owner used stock hubs and bought custom spokes to mate them to the warp 9 17" rims.
Its a really fun bike but I have had dual sports and an adventure bike before this and its hard riding home from work and not taking a detour down the dirt road or check ing out some old trails now that the vegetation is getting ready to die back.

Thanks guys for the responses.

I think i may just try running the KX hubs for my dirt setup and re-******* the stock KLX hubs to a sumo setup for the street.

I'm figuring I'll get one of those little pouches that mounts to the front fender plastic to put the speedo drive in when i'm running my dirt setup.

I really appreciate the insight and I plan to update you guys with results for others' research.

I just looked up the rear hub of the 06 KLX250 and every rear hub from the KLX250 and 300 from 1994-2006 fit, Also the hubs from the KDX200-220 from 91 up fit and the KLX650R from 93 up fit.

No idea about the KX, they may be identical, but with a bit different machining or maybe bigger spokes, which will make the part number change. Plus you never said which year. Best bet is stay within the ones I listed. I got them from Partzilla click here

Thank you mine is an 06. I have been having a hard time finding a rear wheel for some if the models you listed, then just for giggles I typed in KX250 and a ton came up on ebay.

Just remember, if it was a KX it was probably ridden hard, have someone give it a good look.
