Are you talking about the RFVC XR 200? Stock I think it would be pretty close the XR might even have been a tiny bit faster (hard to say it was a long time ago), but the KLX has far more potential. I remember riding one of those back in the late 1980's and I was impressed by how well it worked.

I owned an 83 XL200 and a 1985 XR200r the 85 should be faster than a 1990 because of the 2 carbs but close enough to compare. When I bought the "stock" KLX I still owned the 83/85 so naturally I had to have someone race me. The XR was geared way lower and had better tires but the rider was 60# heavier. Off the line I spun a bit but soon overpowered in the short 200' and left my friend in the dust. Yes it's faster how much? IDK but the ol Honda still gave it a decent run. Top speed of the XR was around 65mph (gps) I didn't care to rev it higher. The XL was geared higher but had absolutley no power compared to the RFVC.

I have also raced a friends 1985 XL250r with my big bore and straight up toasted him. Another friend with a 1986 XL600R walks away from me past 30mph or so but he's pushing like 42 hp. And just for comparison sake A Chinese 200cc bike has no right to try and race a half dead KLX.

Equal on the graded roads we have. My KLX250R (moded) and a stock YZ250F. He couldn't get an inch on me with a roll on start. Was losing a lot of drive through wheel spin and lower gearing. Surprised the two of us how evenly matched the two bikes were.

xr200 has nothing on a klx. just might seem to leap out of the hole due to lower gears combined with a grunty heavy flywheel. Even the xr250 doesn't run out as hard on top.
next up the scale is my old 85 xr350 it just might have more power. pic of my old cr framed xr200+, nickel plated.

I own both (two KLX250s and a 200cc china-bike).
The 200cc bike is about 40 pounds lighter (face it....300 lbs for the 250s is a bit piggish).
The KLX top-speed is about 5-10MPH faster, and its quicker too, but not by much. They are damn near equal up until about 40mph or so.

My brother and my buddy both have Honda XR250R's. One is a 2000 and the other is a 2004. All three of us are piped and jetted. My 2006 KLX250S will pull away from the older one but my brother and I are completely neck in neck all the way up. Sometimes I win sometime he wins. Depends on who nails it first. I do think the XR handles a little better though. They feel a little lighter.
