Default KLX250s Vs KLX250sf Carb ?? Arn't they the same?

Hi all,

Following on from my previous post about carb advice for a 351 kit. Anyway, I'm now going with just a dynojet kit instead of the BB pumper carb.

Here's the post https://www.kawasakiforums.com/forum...-advice-35365/

Anyway, I've just gone onto the dynojet site to get what I need, however they have two different kit sets. One for the KLX250sf & one for the KLX250s ???

I thought the bikes were the same mechanically? Are the carbs slightly different for both bikes?

DJ-2152 250 KAW 09-10 KLX250S Stage 1 & 2 $64.89
DJ-2182 250 KAW 09-10 KLX250SF Stage 1 & 2 $64.89

I have the KLX250sf 2009, so it seems that I need the DJ-2182 kit, but I am very curious to know why dynojet are selling two different kits?

Anyone know why?

I hope they're the same - I just bought a 2182 for my 250S yesterday that was too good to pass on...

The carbs on the 250-S and 250-SF are the same, Dynojet just does that for completeness. Each of those kits will give you the same stuff - you can check the parts on there web site (I think it lists the contents). I used the KLX-300 Dynojet kit, I believe it is the 2206 for my 250-SF and provides a better needle I believe. Most of the guys around here recommend that you get the DJ Kit for the KLX-300.

To answer your question, the carbs are supposed to be the same.

You have a 2009 bike and dynojet makes a kit for that bike. Don't you think they would send you the best needle instead of making you buy one for a different bike? I don't know if some other needle is better but I do know that I trust dynojet to supply the best parts and they are the experts. You have an 09, get the 09 kit.

Your prices suck. I got the kit to my door for 55$ from amazon. I bought the 0.018" drill bit with pin vice for another 5$? at a local HF wannabe tool store.

HB, on the issue of the two jet kits, I'm not sure DJ necessarily considered big bore kits in the mix for the S1 or S2 kits. So if you're going with a big bore kit on any year KLX, I'd think the S2 for the KLX300 would be the best choice. I have the smallest big bore option on my '06 KLX with a 300 cylinder. With a pipe, airbox mods, and the 300 cylinder, I don't think it's a stretch to pick the DJ kit for a KLX300. Surely the same applies to the '09 and later models with big bore kits and especially the 351.

TNC is right. The taper of the 2606 kit for the 300 is the difference.

2206 me thinks...

Anyone have a photo of both needles side-by-side? Would be interesting to see since it seems the needle is the primary difference between the two (now three) kits.

We have all seen that the KLX300 kit will work with our OEM bikes. When going up to the 351 I would be inclined to call up DJ and see what they say in addition to research on this site. Perhaps actually going through as many 351 threads as possible to see "what they did".

I have a hard time understanding why DJ would sell a 2009 and up kit with a new needle if the old KLX300 needle is so superior.

HB, I'll bet DJ saw the 2009 and later kit as a better match to the 250. When our '06/'07 models came out, the 300 was "close enough". Now with many of us going to bigger bores of one size or another, the 300 kit would just about have to be a closer match than one more specifically designed for the 250. I'm also thinking that DJ had a closer eye on the emission issue as time progressed with the '09 and later models. A call to DJ might clear that up. I think they'll have to be very careful as to what they can tell you, however. After all, they are basically telling you to to poo-poo the emissions setup on your street legal motorcycle. I doubt black helicopters will be circling over their facilities anytime soon, but the aftermarket industry probably doesn't want too much light on what we do...LOL!
