KLX250S vs DRZ400S
Hi there guys. New here - See https://www.kawasakiforums.com/m_182..._/tm.htm#18248
One of these threads asks about a comparison between the DRZ400S and KLX250S and which one to get. In 2000 I was looking to buy a dual-sport and looked at an XR650L or a KLR650R or a DR350S but all were too heavy. The XT225 and KLR250 were too small (and heavy for their size) and I wished for something like my old 1983 street legal XR200RC. I was stoked when the DRZ400S came out.
However, I found the bike too tall and heavy but my brother went ahead a bought one anyway. Well, to make a long story short he found the bike too tall and heavy so I went out and bought a street legal KDX200 instead. I rode his DRZ and the KDX is far more comfortable, light and easy to ride. When the DRZ was stolen he went out and got a Gas Gas 280 Pampera instead. It too is street legal and only weighs 200 lbs.
Now six years later Kawasaki has finally brought out the ultimate commuter and weekend bush-whacker. I'm no pro and think the KLX250S is just what I am looking for. A bike with similar ergos to my KDX, as reliable as my KDX but far more civilized than my KDX.
Guess what I'm getting for my 40th?

RE: KLX250S vs DRZ400S
you will not be disappointed, I love the bike, and it is my first dual purpose bike since my 79 Hodaka. So 40 huh? I turned 41 this year, is it a sickness going around, that we have to get these bikes as some sort of right of passage? LOL oh maybe a mid life crisis.....just kidding. Let us know when you get the bike. Last night I dropped the front sprocked down one tooth, to a 13 and it did make a good difference. Now I'm going to trade my 42 back for a 45, and it will be perfect.

hey guys steve o here, let me tell u guys who r not sure about what u want. i went to marty's today and he warmed up the bike and said here ya go.i wasnt sure about getting this bike either because of all this talk of not having enough power. well i am here to say from a 250 rider standpoint. i was more than impressed with this bike. i am definatly sold on this bike. i do not think this bike is underpowerwed one bit and this is coming from someone who has had 250 4 strokes and 250 2 strokes. i thank marty a lot for letting me ride his bike and helping me with my decision. he is a great guy. i am looking 4ward to getting my bike and going riding with him. so let me say it again i think this bike is awesome. u really feel the power kick in when u get in the power band. thanks again marty great bike.

$10 000 - maybe a V-Max (always wanted one)
$15 000 - maybe a BMW R1200GS (love those jugs)
$20 000 - maybe a Harley Fat-Boy (ultimate mid-life crisis tool)
$25 000 - outside chance of a Honda Rune (art in motion)
$30 000 - most definitely a Big-Dog Chopper (mid-life China syndrome)
$35 000 - the awesome Ariel Atom (old-fart "bike") Check out the link below...

I have less than 100k's on my KLX250 but I reckon it's great, sure I'd love the power of a 400 - 650 but they just too damn heavy and tall for me

Naw, no mid-life crisis...yet. Been riding since I was 16 and it's in the blood. Now if a crisis was in the works this is what it may look like:

V-Max is a very cool bike. I looked at them, but decided on a ZRX1200 - just a bad, but the rear tire doesn't spin as easily.
1200GS is a nice bike. I too am a lover of good lookin' jugs, even when they ain't on a motorcycle! I keep hearing too many unhappy BMW owners lately.
Fat-Boy or any other Harley-Davison is out. Why? I like to ride other places than my local H-D dealership. The service intervals are too close together. And once you get used to riding and your skill level increases, posing is just no fun any more!
Honda Rune - cool bike. Just can't see spending that kind of money on a motorcycle.
Chopper - have you ever ridden a hardtail? I have. I can still spot a dime at 100 yards! It hurts!
The Atom, now that looks like a blast. I had an idea similar a couple of years ago. Take a v-6 from a Dodge Intrepid and build a frame in front of it quite similar to what the Atom is. You have a backroads blaster that is a ball to drive and handles better than anything on the road. I guess my concept works!
