KLX250S or R1200GS
Got a call from the dealer today to say they had 250S in stock and to hurry in. Told the wife and she says okay but she wanted to see the bike. Anyway she said it's too small and I should get the BMW R1200GS I've wanted for so long. It's my 40th and she says I deserve it.
I think I'm going for the BMW while I have the gap and then will buy her the KLX as a thank-you gift!
...besides I have my street-legal KDX200 to keep the dirty side down.

RE: KLX250S or R1200GS
If you want a long distance adventure bike, especially one that can carry two people, the KLX250S is NOT for you. But hte BMW of course can't come close to the off-road capability of the KLX. ITs' always a compromise.
Some day they'll update the KLR650 with a lighter, more compact motor, wide ratio 6 speed tranny with a short 1st gear yet tall 6th for freeway use and proper MX suspension for serious off-road use. Update the instruments and plastic while your at it.

Picked up a 2005 R1200GS today and am so hyped about it. Yeah, you can't compare the two and will keep my KDX for the off-road stuff. I'm still set on getting the KLX for the wife (gonna trade in her CRF230).
Both are great bikes!

Took the GS for a spin yesterday and all I can say is OH MAMA! This bike is sweet. It's a keeper and will see me through to retirement.
Now the plan for the KLX is to convince the wife to trade her Ninja 250 and CRF230 for an all-in-one do-it-all bike. There's no space left in the garage!
