I went to try and start my 2006 KLX today for the first time in a few months. I had put the Optimate 4 on it a few days back to make sure the battery was good to go, and it is showing green. My voltmeter says over 13V when I check the battery.

When I turn the key, NOTHING happens. Zero, nothing. No lights anywhere, it's just dead. The run switch is "On". I checked the single 20A fuse I could find under the seat and it is good.

I need some ideas. Could it be the ignition or the run switch that has somehow gone bad just sitting?

 

Forget it guys, I think I figured it out. The battery is completely dead. I connected jumper cables from my truck to it and the headlight goes right on. New batter is in order. I guess the Optimate 4 isn't so great as I thought.

 

You need to keep the battery charge all the time, not just a few days before riding. I put a charger on for 24 hours 1 day/month.
