If my bike draws 23 amps to start it, that means i have 6 minutes of cranking time before the battery is dead??
I am not sure i would trust that in the woods if i needed it after a drop in the local watering hole.
GaryC - good analysis. I certainly didn't mean to starting something with my post above.

IMO, 6 minutes of cranking time is a lot. I think in the worst of conditions, I've cranked about 1 minute. After 15 seconds or so, I'll give the starter a minute or two to cool down, and then the bike has always (except once...keep reading) started right up after the rest. (have drilled the starter jet, which makes a nice difference.)

That said, several around here have posted that they've had occasions where the bike will still crank, but the bike doesn't start, apparently due to low voltage. Charging the battery resulted in a start. I had this happen once when the bike sat in the garage for a while last winter. Cranked for a while, could tell that the starter was dragging due to low voltage, then was able to push start it but it didn't run right for several minutes, likely due to low battery voltage.

Sorry if i came off sounding pissy.

You have the answer there in your post. Ampere-hour rating is a measure of how long a battery will sustain a given load for a specified amount of time. Its not really a measure of how much "power" a battery has.

And to echo IDRIDR's point, 6 continuous mintues of cranking is a LONG time.

If you managed to crank the bike for six minutes and it would not start, i doubt its going to, not to mention the fact that your starter would most likely be fried at that point anyway.

I just did the same, but put in a Shorai LFX09L2-BS12 ($100) instead of the more powerful LFX14L2-BS12 ($145), the 09L2 was recommended to me by the people at atbattery. Really cranks it over fast, and I needed to crank it several times and it never dropped off.

I think mine is the 09L2 as well. The smaller of the two.

The Shoria battery is fantastic and so is the Ballistic battery. They share the same technology and are well worth the money. Shaving off 5lbs is a big plus because of it's high mounting location.

I thought the shoria battery needed some sort of special charging set up as an altenator doesnt charge teh cells equally the only one that has a buit in micro proscesor is the x earth batteries, how is your shoria working is it hooked up just like the stock battery ?
