I could fart 3.5 horsepower and give my bike that much extra power, for a short duration anyway.
The klx doesn't have 25 hp stock, not sure where you're getting that.

Untrue. The earlier models KLX D1 to KLX D4 had 31.5 horsepower stock. FACT. It's all in the manual. Realistically, all that's required is to remove some of the factory junk from the newer models and replace with some after market $$ parts to transform the bike to its former glory.

The 1k it would take to even get near 30hp would be better spent on the Yamaha.

I think we went over this in another thread a few months back.

Also, whoever was saying 3 hp is meager...then why do we need to spend about 600 dollars just to gain around that much? Full pipes and jetting will bring the 09 to a little over 20 hp. Another 400 and I could've had a WR.

I think it's KGWLD (sp), with extensive custom mods which include porting and the like, has over 30 hp. Maybe he'll chime in. He won't reveal his true #'s but will give you an idea of what it takes to get the bike to over 30 hp. It's not easy.

Just make sure you're comparing apples to apples. Some sources quote HP at the crank, some at the c/s, and some at the rear wheel. The only one that really matters is the rear wheel and that factors in losses from the tranny and final drive, as well as mass of the rear wheel - it doesn't spin up for free. So a dyno will always measure quite a bit less and that measures HP at the rear wheel.

So if you're comparing WR HP at the crank to KLX HP at the rear wheel (around 18 stock), then that's apples and oranges.

I really don't know which is being compared, I'm just saying, if they are not measured at the same place, it's not really a comparison, just a statement of unrelated numbers.

I'm closing in on forty and its way beyond just a basic collection of parts. If the yamaha was out when I bought mine I'd have that but it would now be in the condition this ones in. I can't leave anything alone. You should see what I've done to the poor bmw.
