After riding hard or sitting in traffic my red light was coming on recently, even after a recent change of the coolant. Thailand is hot & has a pretty high humidity.....this means my fan switches on way more than is normal compared to cooler countries, even when everything is working properly!
Changed the thermostat & heat sensor last week. This has stopped the red warning light coming on & the fan is switching on/off less than it was. Job done.

So what is it that I need? All of my other bikes are air cooled and I just got this klx and a klr650 within the last two months. I am learning about liquid cooled engines as I go along. So I assume that I need to get a new fan switch(#27010) and while i'm at it I might as well get a warning switch(#27010A) but do I also need to get the relay assy(#27002)? And do I really need to top off the radiator? I thought that was what the reserve tank was for. Again, sorry for my ignorance as I have never dealt with radiators before.

Palm,
You may have bad switches. Or not.
Burp the system.
Get the air out. Ride it. Lean it over both ways. Get the air out before you go paying $70+ per switch. Diagnose before just changing parts. Really.

You have 2 sensors, if the water temperature is below 180F, the warning sensor is bad. If the water temperature is over 180F, the fan sensor is bad. *180F is an estimate, maybe others would know what the spec for the running temp is.
I think you need a meat thermometer now. It will save you $70.
You stated there were little bubbles, if this is boiling, then the fan sensor is bad. If the bubbles are from air in coolant or turbulance, to be determined.

So i'm pretty sure the fan switch spontaneously stopped. I ordered both switches because the soldering just wasn't sitting right with me. Problem fixed! Paid $150 shipped and picked up a few rubber grommets to replace the rotting ones. Thanks guys
