Default KLX250 ACR Question

Hi there,

I have a question regarding the ACR.

I got a 1995 KLX250 off a friend with disassembled engine andthe ACR "weight" and spring are missing. The bike has only electric starter.

My questions are:

1. Does it came with ACR or because it did not have kick starter they excluded it?

2. Can it work without ACR or the starter is going to give up (or not have enough power to turn the engine)?

3. Can this be bought separate or only with a camshaft?

thanks

On the RMATV OEM parts fiche it shows the spring available for $3.19. The weights are not sold seperately and unfortunately the ACR mechanism is sold as part of the exhaust cam at $187.

ebay may have a used unit for a lot less.

good luck.

Forum rummers have it that the estart will not turn the bike over without the ACR.

I thought I saw some posts where it was speculated that the bike would turn over, but place more stress on the whole system and maybe turn over more slowly (e.g. more wear on starter and battery). Did you find a definitive post where someone actually tried it?

I think the ACR is really only there for kick starting. The starter should spin the engine over fast enough to the ACR to disengage anyway (~500 rpm) if what i've read is true.

Besides, what about the millions of bikes that dont have any kind of compression release at all ? Do they all have super heavy duty starters ?

Billman, well dude. Put it back together and see if the starter will spin it. Then you (and if you post, we) have the answer.
