Default KLX250 2007 vs. 2009

I sure am glad I got the 2007 model. Stronger spokes and better brakes are always welcome, but otherwise the 2009 model looks like a step backwards. I ride my KLX as a dirt bike first and in that regard it looks like Kawasaki is heading the wrong direction.

I noticed the weight of the bike has increased nearly 20 pounds:

2009 Dry weight: 277.8 lbs.(280 lbs CA model)

Ouch.. this is compared to 262 lbs for the 06/07.. lighter weight makes a big difference on steep difficult trails.

If I were buying a new bike today, I would be taking a good look at the 2008 Husqvarna TE 250.. too bad since I really like Kawasaki. (my KLX has been 100% reliable and nearly indestructible so far!)

they ARE trying to make it more of a street bike. they didn't make a newmodelfor the guys/girls who already have one.they're not trying to get us to upgrade. they want people who don't have a bike to buy them.

A bit more weight on the road will help it be more stable! I won't pass judgment tillI see them.

Talk about weight, I rode a DR650 today. Man that thing has some bulk. It rode like a cadillac. I'm used to my KTM EXC with the stiff suspension and hard seat. The DR felt like a minivan by comparison, couldn't hardly feel the bumps at all. It was fun, though - different. Definitely more comfortable on the road, but I wouldn't want to do much with it in the woods.

I always wanted one of those. A nice street bike with occasional unpaved trail roads thrown in. A KLR650 with a little more dirt capability.

Now you know why I also have my KLX250. The DR is a great commuter bike - handleswell on-road, plenty of power and torque, and rides really nice. Off-road, it's a handful. Even with the proper tires, it's way too heavy and suspended way too soft. With all of its weight and power, on tight trails, you don't steer it - you correct it. Fireroads and two-tracks are a blast though.
