Default RE: Klx suspension

Sorry for the delay have been extremly busy at work. Well I talked to John at moto-pro suspension about if the KLX 300 springs would work in the 250 forks he highly recomends not doing it.
Reasoning, they are 15mm shorter then are springs in the 250 and it would effect ride hiegth and spring preload if you where to put them in straight from the box.Your suspension would be worse off and unsafe. You could make a spacer to get the preload and ride hieght back to where it belonged but with some of the internal differences the first time you bottom the forks out their would be a good chance the springs would get damaged.

The srpings that where orderd for my bike are 38.2 mm in dia. (Just like the klx300) and 469mm long,(470mm is whats in are bikes) now all that will need to be done is a 1 to 4 mm spacer depending what John finds on preload specs.

Suspension is one area on a bike I myself have not messed with much so it is prttey much Greek to me.So sorry to all you do it yourselfers if it looks like I am selling out. So once this process is all done I will let you all Know how it rides. And I will post part #s and any other info I can drag out of old John.

i dont really want to tear my whole bike apart to replace the spring, i weight 210lbs. It is adjustable right? If yes how can i adjust the rear shock/ spring for my weight. any help? I can see the threads and nuts that look like the adjustment on the rear suspension. This is my first dirt bike so im new to all this. any help would be great. i adjusted the front forks, i made mine 4 clicks out. they were both at 11 clicks out. If someone could guide me on adjusting the rear spring/shock, i would be very appreciative.

http://www.planetklx.com/techtips/sag.shtml This page talks about how your suspension should be ideally setup and what measurements to take and how to adjust it.

I got it done finally AND IT IS FANTASTIC! [sm=happy046.gif]This is how a bike should feel. Its a whole new bike to me.Well I guess it is because while it was apart for the suspension it also got a KDX snorkel,125 main jet, new needle on 2 from the top, mixture screw 2.5 turn, drilled out crank case vent and klx 300 exh. with modded baffle. WOW I AM JUST STOKED! I ran down to the gas station after it was all put back together to top off the tank for a mileage check. Leaving a stop sign I just laid into it Hit 2 gear and up came the front end hit third and up it came again not as much but off the ground 4 inchs. Man that surprised me my eyes must have been the size of soccer *****. I walked back in the house after getting home and the wife looks at me and says what you smiling about. OH nothing the bike handle alot better now thats all.[sm=gears.gif]

Excellent! Isn't it great how much better the bike responds after the "standard" mods?

BTW, I took some video today of going over a small jump - getting into the air a few feet. I never realized it before, but it sure looks like I'm bottoming out. I did just adjust the damping and that has been a definite improvement. But seeing the bike bottom out like that has opened my eyes about the suspension. I might have to give your guy a call.

Scat, I hope that wasn't in reference to my post, it wasn't aimed at you, I was just sending a link to EMS regarding what he should be looking into without doing a teardown. Never meant anything by it[sm=oopssign.gif]
