Default Klx suspension

Well yesterday i had my first visit with John from Motopro suspension, here in WA state. The first thing we started with was a sag adjust. John first started with a fully extened measurement point A just above rear axle bolt to point B at the little v in fender just behind helmet lock. then he took a unloaded sag reading, John said 25mm less then the fully extended reading, then we took a loaded reading we were looking for 90 to 105mm again less then the fully extended measurement. We were able to get the 105mm loaded but had no unloaded sag ( wrong spring for my fat ****) so he sent me away and told me to bring him the forks and rear shock in the am. He will pull the springs and take a total length reading and a compression reading this way we will know exactly what is hidden inside of the little KLX. So let the tear down begin.
First thing you need to do is pull seat ,side plates, air box and muffler

Then loosen bolts on triple clamps, there are 3 per side, and slide forks out of clamps.
Total time to remove front forks and rear shock 40 minutes.

maybe on the rear shock, but the forks maybe a different story. the KYB forks springs from the 300 are 2 inches shorter than what is in most units that they make. That will be another thing that John will look into.

Really? I was looking at a brand new KLX250S and KLX300 side by side at the Kawi dealer the other day, and the suspensions looked identical. I figured if we got one, I would just go to race tech's website and use their spring calculator for the KLX300 to see what we need. Stock KLX300 comes with .38's (130-150lbs), mine has .42's (160-180lbs) and I have a brand new set of .46's (200-220lbs).

Both Scott and I had read on either this site or another, that somebody had bought the 300 fork springs to put into their 250 and found that the 300 springs were 2 inches shorter than what was in the 250's forks. And the guy said that he was going to use some PVC tubing to use as a spacer.

John (the moto-pro guy) stated that even though the forks may look the same on the outside, the internals may be completely different.

When Scott (Scat) gets his forks and shocks back, he should be able to give us a full report on what he found out from John.

If you like, check out his website Moto-Pro

Ok this is what I know as of now he pulled the springs and took some reading the rear spring is 100% klx 300 it has kg reading of 5.4. The front springs had a kg reading of .37 with 470 mm total length, he said that our 250 springs are 20 mm longer than the stock klx 300 spring. I will drill him more on if the klx 300 will work or not when i have a chance my boss cut our phone call a bit sort so i will post my findings on that later.
For my weight and the way the bike reacted to his initail setup he rec. I use a .47 fork spring and a 6.4 shock spring. Neither of the two he has in stock at this time. So once we have them installed and we know the setup is right he will be able to use this info to setup any wieght Rider.
