Honestly I'd cry if my bike was stolen, I love it, it gives me so much joy and entertainment. Bikes are super easy to start, just short out the main switch then create a jumper cable to go from the battery to the starter motor.
That's why your buddy could start it with a paper clip, as most of the time the positive terminal from the battery is usually less than an inch from the starter motor wire.
As for the steering lock, well I've never tried to break one but I doubt it is easy to do so combine that with a disc lock I think your bike would be pretty secure, if they're gonna steal your bike with one of those on then there is nothing stopping them anyway.

ac, sorry to hear about your loss. Notify everybody you know and don't know, and put out a reward. Not sure where you live, but word travels fast. You might also notify the local high schools/post a reward notice. Kids see alot, and hear alot.
