KLX CO fuel mileage...wow!

LOL!...the story on the outdoor potty is funny. I was in the Taylor Park area on my way to American Flag Mountain via Reno Divide trail. The "call of nature" reared its ugly head and did it fast. I started looking for a good place in the forest to make a deposit. I pulled into some trees and got my on-bike supply of toilet paper and headed into the bushes. Lo and behold, just into the bushes a short distance, there was a fairly decent outdoor throne in place. Worked like a charm.

OK...here's a link to that vid. Not much goes on until later in the vid when we get to the real climb for Hancock Pass. It's amazing how flat the run up to the pass looks on video. That's an over 12,000' pass at the top. It's pretty rocky for the last 2-3 miles. Obviously I'm the only green bike in the bunch. I pull over at one point, thinking I'm holding up the orange monsters behind me. But later I pull back into view as the climb continues. Man...I look like an old guy riding a dual sport bike in that vid. Oh...I am an old guy riding a dual sport bike.

As altitude goes up, so does fuel mileage. If you noticed, the higher you get, the harder it is to even find the higher octane fuels. The regular fuel in my area is 85 octane. 86 is mid-grade, and 88-89 is premium. You *might* be able to find 91 at some stations. IIRC, 93 was premium when I lived back east in NY state.
I would expect to see 3-6 MPG better in an automobile at 4700 feet (over sea level). Bikes get better mileage to start with, so I'm not surprised that you did so well... except for the 72 MPG reading. That's pretty awesome!
