alright fellas, so here I am riding trails with two KTM 400exc and they just seem to have ZERO wheel spin climbing hills....? then I came across this thread, whats the best sprocket for me, I dont need 70/80mph top end, but I do need to be able to climb hills and really dig in on the corners....just got some Pirelli MT's!
I went with 13/45 and it was great down low but would still cruise at 60mph w/out too much rpm increase. I think several have this combo and it's been said that it is the most versatile for the bike's abilities both on/off-road.

yeah, any rear sprocket that fits the klx300 will fit our bikes. Once you get larger than a 48 tooth though, I think you gotta loose the chain gaurd.

Though I have not tried this combination, I suspect it lies in the middle range for chain length 13+45 =58, so which chain do you use, a 106 or 108?? If your login reflects your bike and you have an 09 model, my post may not hold water, as the 09 model has a different swing arm. On earlier models withthis combo, a chain is going to be at one extreme of adjustment.

I'm running the 13/45 combo with a 108 link if I recall. Works great for me, but I havent tried anything other than stock.

All you do is grind off two of the pin heads and use one of these to push the old link out. A new masterlink and your sittin in butter.........I don't know what that means but it sounds funny. I got mine from the bike shop, I think its a motion pro brand.

denniskirk.com has partsunlimited chains with equal tensile strength as the renthals for $58, it's what I got and you don't have to cut anything. they've got them in all lengths. you need a longer chain, so cutting is not necessary as you need to go up in length to 108 as deej pointed out for 13/45.

nah, I don't have my new bike yet but I did own a 2006 KLX250S, so I've been there. The stock chain will NOT fit 13/45, I tried it. The new bike has a new swingarm yes, but I would bet the house that all from the '07 as far as chains/sprockets/lengths are identical. As far as adjustment of 108 chain with 13/45, after installation, the adjusters are at their smallest meaning the wheel is pushed in as far as possible. This means you've got the whole gammet of adjustability on the snails and lots of chain life. However, if you use the chain guard you'll have to cut the snail-tails off as they're right in front of the chainguard mount bolt hole.
