Default klx 300 tank

will the klx 300 fuel tank fit our bikes, I can see you have to get the shrouds also but that would be ok. It's a 2.6 gallon tank. I know that some of you guys have aftermarket tanks for the 300 and was wondering what your thoughts might be.

As far as I know, the tank will fit, but there is a little bit of work that needs to be done, as in grinding a tab or two off the frame that are unique the 250s.

dmar,

The KLX300 tank works great. I have some pics but I am having some problems pulling them off of my memory card onto my PC.

You basically have to do the same mods that bmwhd and Nobrakes did to install the IMS tank. The IMS tank is a little bigger than the KLX300 tank, so I think it is an even tighter fit, but the mods are similar. Basically just moving stuff around to make it all fit.

I am extremely happy with the mod. Especially since I got the tank for free (well, about $21 for shipping my old tank). I filled up after some highway miles the other day and my odo was at 116 and I had not hit reserve yet. Not too shabby since I always hit reserve at about 75 miles with the stock tank.

I will post pics as soon as I can get them off my memory card. [:@]

My KLX 250 has the stock KLX 300 plastic tank on it. Sits a bit higher than the stock metal tank at the tankfill locationbut looks good and I noticed no difference when riding it. If I was spending bug bucks I would not bother with the conversion, just get a Clarke or IMS. However if acquired on the cheap the little extra capacity is worth it.

I had no scales to wiegh the two when I had mine done over in Thailand. I'd be curious if CWgoff was able to see if there was some wieght shaven off or not.

tremor38 - Stock fan had to go. I have not fitted my new fans on yet, but I am going to be doing something very similar to what Nobrakes & bmwhd have. I considered using a product that pushes through the radiator fins to secure the fans onto the back, but I decided against that at the last minute. I have had the tank on for about a week and half and have not even come close to having the temp light come on so I am in no hurry.

Team FTB- Sorry. I did not weigh anything. I am not overly concerned with weight.

All - Here are some pics. I have a few others of just the tank before I put graphics on the shrouds, but these show the almost completed project. I also put on an all-black gripper Ceet cover.
