Default KLX 300 Muzzy Slip on

Ok how about the muzzy slip on for the 300. Will it fit our bikes?

I find it interesting that Muzzy doesn't even show a current muffler available for the 300 on their site from what I saw...only the '09 and later KLX250S. It's also interesting that FMF doesn't even show a header pipe for the 300...probably because the 300 header is already sufficient for optimum performance. So, that kind of indicates to me that a muffler for a 300 will not fit an OEM KLX250S headpipe. If I recall, my full Muzzy header and muffler from '06 for my '06 KLX250S is the same one for a 300...but it's been awhile, and these parts aren't on Muzzy's site anymore. I'm wondering if the rear mounting points between the '06/'07 models and the '09 and later models are the same due to noticeable changes at the rear of these bikes. No, I'm not positive on any of this.

See the Muzzy website and email Dave. He has full exhaust system for KLX-250S for my 2006 in stock, even though it's not shown on his site. $530 for the FULL exhaust.

For those in the know...why would I want a Muzzy over the FMF? Any comment on one vs the other?

This is why I love this forum. I was under the impression that we could use the klx 300 stock exhaust for our bikes as a better flowing upgrade. I then assumed the two had the same head pipe so a slip on muzzy would fit. I guess I was mistaken. Thanks for your help guys.

Well, hold on there. My comments were not set in concrete. I'd like to see/hear more comments about this issue. I somewhat deduced my possible conclusion based on what other companies are showing that fit the 300, the '06/'07 KLX250S, and the '09 and later KLX.

The muffler pipe (the part that extends forward from the muffler and joins the header) are different sizes between the KLX 250 and 300. The 300 pipe is about 6mm bigger in diameter than the 250 pipe. I know because I have one of each and I just measured them.

Edit: My 250 muffler is from an '07.

Yep, the header outlets are very different. I have an '09 S, and installed a complete stock 300 exhaust. Slip ons are not interchangeable between the U.S. KLX300 and the U.S. KLX250S/SF.

Just so people are not confused, the 250/300 stock headers are the same diameter. The difference is at the end where the muffler attaches.
Both are glass pack type mufflers, so there will be no difference in power. Go for the sound you're looking for. The Muzzy is very loud. Not sure about the FMF.

I think there have been 3 Muzzy mufflers over time. The first round one was very loud. The second round one that I have is much more moderate. The third one is more oval and is quieter. I think the one in the pic on the Muzzy site for the '09 and later models is the oval one.

300 Muzzy "slip on" will fit the AUS and NZ spec 250S, 250R, 300R and 250SM models regardless of year. They all get the 300R header (denoted by the hex head bolts on the heat shield.) If your header has allen head bolts on the heat shield then any "slip on" designed for the 300R will not fit correctly, you'll need a "slip on" designed for the USA spec 250S bike. Zomby is correct about the diameter, they're the same, the difference is in the length of the header, the 300R header is longer. This being the case, any aftermarket "slip"on" designed for the USA 250S bike WILL also fit the 300R bikes as the mid pipe will be longer and a small trim will have the pipes fit perfectly.
