RE: KLX 250s Horsepower confusion
well, yes they do and I frequent it. but someone needs to stick around and bring alot of you guys down to reality. I'm sorry you hate the truth so much, but I don't like it when misinformation isgiven to new guys looking for the truth about the KLX. that's what I'm here for. what did I say that you didn't agree with. Or was it just that I said it at all?
also, some types of herpes will go away. ever had a cold sore? that's a form of herpes. pretty clever post, although again, inaccurate.

RE: KLX 250s Horsepower confusion
I would like to know what the f'in difference is with how much HP the KLX makes or the DRZ makes? Really, tell me? If you get on it, and you like how it pulls and think it has enough power, then fine, if you don't then make some changes.
How gives a rats if the DRZ makes 10 more HP over the KLX, that is just a random meaningless number used as a pissing match. The DRZ is also heavier so you should take that into account. You need to compare dyno charts and see where each bike makes its power as it relates to how you use the machine.
I mean really, people get all hung up on HP and 1/4 mile times but then can't ride the bike for crap and get blown away in the real world. Can't tell you how many R6's I passed on the brakes or on the outside of turns on my EX500 on the track and it makes what, 50 HP to the R6's 100+?
It isn't only about HP, there are so many more variables to take into account, many are personal to the rider, never understood why people argue. BTW, if you want to know rear tire HP, take crank HP and minus 10 to 15% that gives you an apprx rear wheel HP number.

RE: KLX 250s Horsepower confusion
yes, you are somewhat correct sir. I only reference the DRZ because that's what I have to measure against the KLX. Is it a fair comparison? Not at all. But neither is telling a potential buyer of a KLX that it is cheap and easy to get major horsepower out of the KLX. It's not and I just want to let this guy know along with some other insight I have since I did own a KLX. To answer your question in regards to how much power the DRZ 400 makes compared to the KLX; the DRZ makes 35 documented stock rear wheel horsepower to the KLX's stock 16-18. So it's plain to see the DRZ makes a lot more than just 10 more horsepower than the KLX. Yes the DRZ is heavier, a whopping 27lbs. Which is nothing really when riders vary so much in weight. Pound for pound, the KLX is lighter but the DRZ still has more torque which is really what makes a bike accelerate. I cannot say enough about the improvement in power the 400 provides. It really is beyond night and day. It's more like a Model-T to a new ZO6 'Vette. The way I look at it, the jump to the DRZ is halfway between the KLX and saya new KX450F- a little closer to the KX than the KLX albeit. 15 more horse would get me to the KX, and 18 down would get me back to the KLX, stock bikes I mean. The DRZ makes great power but I'm sure if I rode a 450 I would think the DRZ was a pooch. But I don't think it would be as noticeable going from the DRZ to the KX as it was going from the KLX to the DRZ.

Have any of you seen the recent write up in one of the cycle magazines about the KLX 250s?
They report 24 hp. I believe the dyno figures you guys give me but whats with all the different numbers?

by the way i saw your new bike and it looks sweet. it was hard for me to say that since you keep bashing the klx.

I had just got done taking my motorcycle drivers test and was putting on my helmet when he was pulling out. I thought he was going to stop over and chat, I wished he did because I don't see too many of those around here and I know he doesn't see many orange bikes, but he just took off. Also taking the test there was 1 scooter, 1 KTM 450 EXC , and 2 big Harleys. I passed no problem, but I felt bad for the guys on the Harleys - they were so big they were running over cones, stalling out, and generally looked like they were getting pissed off. Scooter guy nearly did a stoppie during test.
Anyway, I've been using my motorcycle temporary permit for the past year and some months and it was going to expire in June so I figured I better get on with it.

RE: KLX 250s Horsepower confusion
thanks for the compliment. as i've said before, i'm not bashing the KLX.I speak the truth about it in every way. sometimes being an owner that's hard to take. just like when i say my DRZ is not perfect. i wish it had a tach and another gear. no bike is perfect, but when we pick one we must be very objective and look at every concession and every positive about the bike. if i misspoke about the KLX or misrepresented it in any way, show me where I was inaccurate. If I could have any bike right now, it would be a KLX 450S. that's not available, so I went the next best route. imo, for the money, there isn't a better bike on the market that can handle street and dirt duties while making seriouspower and torqueas well as the DRZ. and that's sad because the bike dates back to 2000. and if it weren't for the SM having the inverted RM fork I probably wouldn't have bought one. Yes there are Huskies and KTM's that make gobs of power with a plate, but to me spending over $7000 on a dirt bike just wasn't within me. Of course this is just my opinion and to each his own. But an opinion is different than misrepresenting facts like was tried here ealier.
The cycle magazine stating the 24 horsepower claim is probably accurate for the crank rating. take 10%-15% off that and you have close to 18 or so.
