KLX 250s Help
I have the bill Blue 350 kit and I could use someone with experience to help me install it. Do I need to do any adjustment to the piston rings or are they already the correct measurement for the new liner? Any recommendations on new coolant for the bike, or any other tips? I had previously removed the snorkel and installed larger jets. I am located in northeast Mass.
Thanks , Mick

Hi Mick,
Bill usually ships rings with the correct gap, but they should be checked. Do the instructions show the gap, or is this in the manual? I don't recall. You should have a shop/service manual, and if you don't, it's a good idea to find one before this project.
See my sig line for my 351 install and links to some others.

theres a lot you need to get right, and this forum definitely is a wealth of info. err on the side of asking before you do something you're unsure of.
coolant wise - i switched over to engine ice at the suggestion of a member here, and the bike runs noticeably cooler that way.
definitely get the shop manual (pdf available around the web). be sure to stuff rags in the oil gallery, crank opening, etc. dont wanna drop something and have to split the case open to fetch it. keep some tension on the cam chain after you take the cams out. take pictures of the timing marks before you take the cams out.
etc, so forth, and so on.
theres a youtube channel - mr duh factor or something like that - has an in depth install video.

#1 priorty, get your cam timing right.
#2 Get a torque wrench and use it.
#3 Be sure and add coolant before starting it (don't ask me how I know)
#4 Don't forget the piston clips and installing the rings in the proper rotation.

Make sure to confirm ring end gaps, take the time to insert them into the bore and manually check them yourself. Never leaved that up to someone else.
While your inside the cyl head check your valve shim sizes. That way when it's time to adjust your valve clearances you already know the measurements and get your shims ahead of time to do the job.
My '09 valve cover gasket shrank, when buttoning up my big bore install I noticed.... Requiring me to delay completion until I received the replacement gasket.
Happy wrenching!
