Plus one. it was the bigging platform for the 300R they just bored it out and changed the plastics in 1997. The 250S is kinda based off this but newly redisgned.

Up until 07, we got the R version.
My 06 is an KLX250R.
But the new 09 is an S version.
I wanna know why a company markets a bike as an 09 model when it's been on the market for sooooo long now, and last time I looked it's still 08?
Ok I know why.

Refering to the 2006 & 2007 models only The "S" designation was for the US and I think Canada, the "R" designation refers to the Australian model. The actual model names are KLX250H6 and KLX250H7 for both markets. The 2008 (aus) model for some reason has "S" designation

The Honda 230 is a roach, one of my buddies bought one because the seat height is lower, the honda dealer told him the honda puts out alot more hp than the kawi.I rode it and I think my ttr-225 had more nutz,I'll always love the honda reliabilty though.

My neighbor has a CRF230F (off-road version). I rode it after running around on my 99 XR400R. Not a bike I would choose for me. Suspension seemed pretty soft (coming off a race-prepped 400), but then so does the KLX, in comparison to the 400. If I went back to a Honda (I love Hondas, but you seem to get more for the money with the Kawasakis) I'd go with a 450L or 650L.
The 230's are pretty corked-up from the factory. There's a "Power Up" kit available from Honda for the 230 and it's baby brother, the 150. I'm putting one on my son's 2005 CRF150F this winter. Basically it's a jet kit.
On the "KLX250S" - I've been back to the dealer that sold it to the original owner and they can't find "KLX250S" in their parts catalog. It's in there as a KLX250E.

They didn't 'just bore it out.' If you try to put a KLX300R Jug in a KLX 250R (94-96) case, the skirt won't fit unless you have the case machined. The case and jugs are different from 97 on.

btw, you are right- they did 'just bore it out'. we knew what you meant. to the naked eye, no one would know the jugs won't interchange.
