RE: KLX 250 S Alternative
I got on my mountain bike a month or so back after a year and a half of riding dirt bikes instead and wow that thing felt tiny, flimsey, and I couldn't hardly balance right. It's a great mountain bike, though, I love it - a 2000 (I think) Giant XTC. I love the hydraulic disc brakes. It's a hard-tail, though, maybe I'm just used to full suspension now.

In my younger days I'd get a high end titanium frame; build it with my favorite components and hit all the downhill events in Utah and Idaho that I could; rebuilding the broken bike after each race.
I also had a bike that I used for cross country rides but it was a lesser stead.
Now that my knees are shot I just get an inexpensive aluminum frame (sub $1,000) full suspension bike to ride the trails and replace it every year or two, it's amazing how much bike you can get these days for the money.
I'm currently riding a K2 Attack that is in need of replacement, definitely not a competition machine but a solid mount and soft ride for these old bones.

used to be cannondales (or crack n' fails) for me, but in january i picked up a redline singlespeed mountainbike. best decision as far as mtb i ever made. the inexpensive redline smokes the "chi-chi" cannondale in every department. c-dale was warrantied over and over, redline has been trouble free since day one.
