ive got myself a KX250F. i picked it up 2 days ago after a fair drive. Rid it all day yesterday and went to singleton motorcross track to give it a good run today. The thing absolutely RIPS! i love it and ive made the right choice this time. heres couple of pics

Congrat's! The KX is a ripper alright. A buddy of mine -who happens to be the largest Kawi dealer in Nothern Japan- lets my fart around on his KX250F between races at our local track. Totally different animal than the KLX.
Yeah, if MX is what you had in mind, the KLX won't cut it.

I know you were addressing the OP...but I have just a 'shave' of experience in this...and yes, they do...quite literally have twice the power in all ways.

You gotta watch doing that. You have to only use the machine for basically connecting trails when you get it on the road. Holding it open for extended use on the road can be hazardous if done to too much extent. I've heard of several stories of people with legalized MX bikes and they toasted the motors.
I'm sure it was rider error though. I've done lots of wide open riding on my MX bikes, two strokes even..and never blew them up. But with the KLX, it can take so much it doesn't matter if your easy on it when on the road because its set up for that....if that makes any sense.
