KLX 250/300 project
#25
I've grown to hate power coat. The powder coated trailer hitch has the stuff peeling in big chunks and my steel truck rims I had powder coated didn't get good penetration where the center is welded on the back to the rims, having rust under the powder coat on the outside. Due to the characteristics of powder coating it will be a chore to blast all of it off. I think I'm going to run them as they are and when the tires wear out I'll do something else with new rims and go to 16s over the 15s. I would not do powder coated unless I absolutely had to. I'd use VHT or cheap grill paint on the caliper and the master cylinder. You can always strip and repaint far easier or lightly sand and repaint.
I sprayed the frame for my SR500 because of the powder coat issues. With the spray I can feather out a scratch and respray. I also went with spray can color so I can touch it up that way if I want to. I'd be inclined to do something like a single stage acrylic enamel with the catalyst or some similar paint over power coat. Just not a fan. For exhausts I'm all over doing ceramic coating. Reduces heat radiation and requires virtually zero maintenance unless you want to keep it kinda shiny.
