Kiwi klx250h2
Hi All
I just got my first KLX its a 99 250H2. Its stock all through as far as I can tell. Its in really nice condition and 9000kms from new ??? maybe .
I will be using it to get around some hunting blocks and a few gentle Trail rides come summer in NZ.
Just done the fork seals and took it out for a spin. I've noticed a really bad bog on accelerating from low revs.
Once through the hesitation it revs out fine.
I pulled the carb out and found the following info..is this stock jetting?
132 Main, 35 Pilot, Needle N1RX, needle packed up with washers 0.9mm, Air screw 1.5 turns out, Hole in the slide is 2.4mm
The air box lid is missing.
The exhaust is stock at least it looks factory the outlet hole is about 22mm?
I don't have the cash to swap the exhaust or make any major upgrades. Just hoping I can get it to run sweet.
Hope you can point me in the right direction

So I spent too many hours on the net last night researching this..
It sounds like I'm running lean?
I'm going to take the fuel screw out to 2 turns and see what effect it has.
What I find odd is you guys all talk about increasing your main jet size but in stock form the Aus model is 132 which is BIG. I would expect it to be running rich?
Could it be the AUS exhaust flows more than the US model?
I'm going to make a new top for the air box. Can anyone tell what the dimensions are for the slot that the snorkel goes into?
Thanks

Idle screw is for idle mixture. Main jet controls top end.The needle is tapered so the higher its pulled out of the main the more gas, until your just on main.I would say you need to raise the needle by lowering the c clip on it, or find small washers to shim needle higher.
good luck

The hole for the snorkle is 1 1/4" x 3 3/8" with rounded corners, but.....
The passageway that is in the snorkle is a lot smaller, 7/16" x 3 1/4". So if you have just a hole, I would not make it much bigger than 1/2" x 4".
The missing air box cover, really leans it out (sounds like that is causing your bog).

Fellas thanks for the replies. I've made a new top for the air box with the slot sized as if the snorkel is removed and opened the fuel mix screw to manual recommended 2 and 3/8 turns out.
What a difference!! It fires up really easy now and revs clean off the bottom.
It was defo running lean. Haven't ridden it yet its pishin down outside.
I'm wondering if the exhaust is off a 300 any way of telling?
The header pipe is 30mm diameter and steps up to 38 at inlet to back box.

Its amazing how, if I'm left to myself I answer my own questions..
Looks like I have the Aus spec exhaust which has a larger tube size than the US spec.
Is it still worth doing the butt plug exercise?
Inlet is 38 outlet is 22. Anyone done it on an Aus Spec exhaust.
Its still bloody raining so haven't had chance to try my new mixture settings

Hard to tell. I also did the exhaust and took the backfire screen out. I took it out for a spin earlier and it now feels like a 250 instead of a 125!! Still some jetting to do.
It feels like I could lift the front wheel now.
I would say do it. What you got to lose?
