Hey all, got a tire question.....yes another tire thread. I searched the forum and see references to the 4.50-18, but not the 4.60 k270. I ordered one of these k270 4.60-18 rear tires from rocky mountain atv. I unwrapped it today and noticed it is taller, and much thinner than the stock Dunlop. Plus the knobbies are smaller than what I am used to seeing on the k270. I plan on exchanging it, any idea what size I should get to closely mimic the stock Dunlop 4.60-18 that's on it now? They offer sizes 120/80-18, 4.60-18 & 5.10-18.

Any advice would be appreciated!

 

I run a 5.10-18 270 without problems, about the same size if not a bit bigger than stock.

 

I'm running the K270 rear in 5.10-18 and it's working great. It's not a good mud tire, but I ride it in the mud anyway (it's squirrely, but fun!) This tire is going to last a long time, I have a couple thousand miles on it, and still looking great. I also bought the K270 front, and was running it too, but the ***** are really close together and it's no good for anything other than pavement and gravel and dry trails. I ditched the K270 front and replaced it with a full knobby. Much better on the trails, but not so good on the road (always a trade off with dualsport tires).

 

Just FYI: here's what the Kenda K270 5.10-18 looks like on the bike.
new tire, 0 miles. It seems to have a more round cross section than the D603 Dunlop that comes with the bike.


same tire today (I'm not sure how many miles, but I thinks it's close to 2K). The 'roundness' of the cross section has calmed down, but plenty of meat still left on the knobbies.

 

Once you get air in it, it will look normal.
I have the 4.60 on mine, and it's about the same as the stock Dunlop.

 

Here is a pic of my original stock Dunlop tire 4.60 next to a new Dunlop D 606 in the 120mm width.

Anyone use MEFO dual sport tires? They sell them on twisted throttle. The sizes are confusing, in the manual it says front 3.00-21 and rear 4.60-18. The website says the 06 klx 250 s takes the 80/100-21 and the tire listed below that says there is the 3.00 size but not listed for the06 klx 250s.The same with the rear tire. Should you go with the manual listed size or the size listed from MEFO? I would like to go a little wider than a more narrow. I have heard great things about mefo's.

 

Generally theres a metric size and inch size. On my 06 KLX, the orginal tire size is 3.00x21 front and 4.60x18 rear. Metric, it would be 80/100x21 front and 120/90x18 rear. For the newer model KLXs', the size is 80/100x21 front and 100/100x18 rear.

As for the Kenda K270 4.50x18 size, it will work. It is close to the orginal size of the 4.60x18, but I think it may be a little taller. One thing for sure, they last a long time. Over 5k miles and still plenty of tread.

 

Kenda's uses some new math for it's sizing for the 270 Don't even try and figure it out.

The 5.10 will fit, the 120/80 is about stock size, the 4.50/4.60 is tall and thin.

The 3.00 front is narrower than most tires, 3.25 is wider than most tires it's size.
