You may be going in the wrong direction. You haven't mentioned what year your bike is but they usually come jetted lean. Opening up the air flow will make things worse. What exhaust is on the bike? What size main jet? Is the main jet needle adjustable? I have seen where the needle jet was not replaced or where the plastic cage above the jet needle had one of its feet covering the vacuum hole in the slide.

Ride on

Klxster, the bike idles well, starts fine, revs well in neutral. But when you ride it, try to accelerate, it falls flat, won’t go much over 45mph, approx 5-5500 rpm. I’m willing to DJ jet it, if we think that is it’s issue.
it’s a 2009. Definitely has a FMF Q4 on it. Not sure if it’s a slip on, or whole FMF pipe. If you point me, I’ll go that direction. Thanks again to everyone for help/comments.

Do not "DJ kit it" or do any other "performance" mods as anything you do will fail and cost you time and money in doing so.

Sounds like the primary fueling system is almost non-functional. Totally non-functional primary fueling creates a ceiling of about 3k rpm, so yours is partially dead.

This is where you are going to become a "CVK man" or enjoy 45 mph forever. You should be able go identify all primary fueling system components and how to ensure they all are installed and working properly by reading the "CVK" thread below with the carb off the bike, in front of you.

Good luck...

P.S. I'll say it once again. Buying a ded or barely functioning KLX will require you to remake yourself into a CVK "expert" before you will be able to get the bike running correctly.

My only concern during reassembly was the diaghram. I tried multiple times, and finally got it. I checked it with the shop vac method and it worked, briskly? I’m not sure, this is my first time with a CVK carb. I struggled with replacing it with OEM new.But at 147.00, I figured I would give it a try, since it did move up and down with the throttle with vacuum applied. Could the diaghram be causing my issues? I feel comfortable and confident with the rest of the assembly of the carb. Thanks

Was the Mikuni a TM36?
if so, are they direct replacement, or is there a lot of modification to get them to work? Not giving up on the CVK, can’t let it get me. But if I have to spend 150 on a diaghram, I might as well upgrade to something I’m more familiar with. Thanks

No there a few modifications depending on you're setup. See links below for carb information.

As you can read in my link below, lifting the slide manually with your finger is a final test for the diaphragm/slide functioning - even resistance and smooth operation during brisk full span movement is key, variable resistance and stiction denotes a problem.

Yes
It's been stored in a plastic bag and I have a tag on it that says 38 pilot and 125 main jet.
It looks like new. I never had any problems with it, just replaced it with the Mikuni pumper
