Not true. On Japanese models, blue rims were an option from 1998 until 2003.

Got the torch out. Curiosity got the better of me.
Without the side panel off I can see the rubber mount and the metal tabs attaching the CDI to the air box. I also see the wires coming out of the CDI itself. Out from the black tar insulation material. I can make out a marking, a white circle with a line through it, J19 in the bottom half and J (single digit??) in the top half. Again it looks like we get the good stuff. BONUS
I'll post a photo in the morning.
Can you do the same?

Adddit:
Got this shot from the NoBrakes 300cc post.

The CDI I have doesn't look like this one. Mine reminds me of the old style rubber tar filled type I used to have on my old "elsie".

This one is for sale on Ebay $50. Needs some wiring mods for the current USA bikes tough.

If it's the same as the pic I posted above it's not the good one.

The blue rims also came as an option in 07, I just picked up a set on auction here last week for my bike.

Naw, that 1994 CDI from US Ebay is totally different. It's powered the same way as the KLX300 CDI...gets it's power straight from the stator...won't work on our bikes. We need the 'DC' CDI.
