The Jig Is Up! See pics.......
OK. So I have a 2007 KLX250, and it's "supposed" to have a catalytic convertor. I decided to do the poor man's pipe mod and gut my original muffler today. I bought another stock one just in case I ever have an issue that needs warranty work, I can put it all back to stock (thanks KLXer, it arrived today safe and "no" sound ). Well here it is, and there is NO cat inside this thing. Just a large chamber with packing around the outer shell. I looked inside the pipe with a flashlight and mirror, no cat.I cuta big hole in the end, no cat. I removed the first baffle towards the end, no cat. I have still got to get further dowm into it with a hole saw on an extension to get the tiny hole way down inside it much bigger. All the hype about having "severely resticted because of the cat" is a bunch ofcrap. I have a nice piece of tubing I'm going to weld to the end, and also weld the part I cut off the side. Next is the jetting changes! Oh,I did happen to start it up with just the header pipe on it and HOLY ****, LOUD.I still have a lot of work to do to get it all out, but I think it will turn out nicely, and all I spent was $50 on the spare stock pipe.

not for nothing but half the reason we go to an after market pipe is the weight. that thing weighs a lot and it's way up high on the bike. by going with a lighter pipe you lower the center of gravity a bit. just my 2 cents.

I weigh 199.9 lbs, and it pulls pretty good stock, BUT, as with any gearheads, anyone wants more- even Hyabusa owners right? I just can't see spending a minumum of $250 to get a lighter muffler (what, maybe 10lbs?) just to compensate for my beer gut that I can't get to go away. That's why I'm doin it the poor man way.
