I completely agree with your second statement

Except down under where it's spot on for the stock pipe and "fancy" CDI.

funny, stock is a 35 and next size up is a 38, 2 on the main isn't even worth making your hands smell like gas on this bike. Did he even qualify pipe or airbox mods to go with it? I'd say he baffled you with some bs that worked on some other bike that he's delt with, or was just guessing. The 250s does have a llimit, but there is some left to uncork.

JET Kit--When i asked him about increasing the power he said "Go up 2 in the pilot from 40 to a 45 (they increase by 2.5 each size) & go up 2 in the main.
LEAVE THE NEEDLE ALONE!

DOES ANYONE AGREE WITH THIS STATEMENT?

Jetting will help release those HP numbers. And going up in 2 sizes of jets does sound right. Thou the pilot jet should be left alone as it can be adjusted through the idle fuel screw.

Most folks run the 128 and up main jet, thou most of them also run aftermarket pipes and opened intakes. Stock should be a 118 jet (which is what I pulled out of mine). I currently run a 124 jet with a opened up intake but stock pipe.

Does it have numbers on the sides of the jets?

Ok so this is an old thread, and I hate it when it just starts to get in to the info I'm searching for but for some reason cuts off and no more responses or info.

So mine is a 2012 and I just picked it up from an older gent that took decent care of it but let it sit for about 7-8 months before I got it. Would hardly start after many attempts and would not idle, but had a good amount of power once she fired up with idle screw set up to 4000 rpm and would run 75 mph down highway no problem. The Carb was like a green ocean coral inside. So after an ultra sonic cleaner bath for about three hours and no results I hand cleaned it and have spent many hours on getting the carb cleaned. Now it starts flawlessly and will finally idle great. But I lost 15 mph of the top end! Any ideas? I just verified the main jet was a 118. The local dealer recomended an all ***** out carb kit for the rebuild.

Those All ***** kits are a decent rebuild kit. I can see one being recommended with a carb that sat as long as yours. A Dynojet kit is what you want for a performance mod. As far as your performance drop, it sounds like there is still some junk somewhere in the carb. Ultrasonic is a pretty good system, but I think you really need a long soak in some of the horribly nasty carb cleaner available out there for the time your carb sat. Also, what was the gas tank like on this bike as far as crud, rust, etc.? How's the sock filter on the petcock as far as crud/rust?

There is also that little filter in the fuel inlet tube that may clog.
