Default Insurance costs

So I just figured I'd vent a little about a quote I received from progressive to insure a 2015 ninja 1000 (NOT A ZX10R). The bike would be partially financed so full coverage is necessary. Let me start out by saying the cost of the motorcycle is roughly $11,000...

They quoted me at $7209 A YEAR to insure this thing. Are you kidding me? Nearly 70% of the value of the motorcycle just to insure it? That's outrageous and sickening. As far as I've gathered online, a Z1000 (no fairings) is HALF the cost to insure in most cases, still $3600...

Anyone here have a similar experience trying to insure a motorcycle, or did they get the numbers wrong?

Wow, that's crazy! I'm paying $168 a year (full coverage) through Geico on my anemic 250.

As you know with insurance companies it's all about risk and they assume most people buying those bikes are going to ride them fast and be a higher risk.

And perhaps at high risk of theft.

You know what they say, ride it like you stole it.

So I checked other insurance companies such as geico, farmers, and AMIG, and they quoted me with more coverage for an average $1200 a year. Progressive is smokin' something...

I pay $230 through progressive for full coverage on my klx and liablity on my drz.

On my 94 ZX9r when it was insured I used to pay 2500$ a year minimum coverage with TD Insurance. 3 times the price of my truck. Somehow don't blame them, try following the 50 km/hr (canada) town speed limit with a Zx9r or the 90 km/hr highway speed limit XD Fastest we've hit is 230 km/hr before my heart stopped.

Bought the klx for almost £4000
I pay over £1000 in insurance a year fully comprehensive.

The area I live in is notorious for bike theft and crash for cash schemes.
At least when my bike was stolen the insurance company repaired my bike without any issues.

I'd have to agree that something doesn't add up. I have used Progressive for my bikes for the last 8 years. Even when I lived down in FL they were very reasonable but I also don't carry collision on the gixxer-that was crazy expensive. I wouldn't be surprised if the area you live in may have had a high loss rate.
If you are using Progressive on your other machines I would show them the other qoutes and ask them WTF are they thinking.

I pay 325 a year for full covered on the little KLX. I got a quote for a ZX6R, full coverage was 480 a year. I kept asking if it was correct and they said yes. I use to have Allstate for almost 12 years, no issues, claims, tickets, nothing. They wanted close to 600 a year for the KLX. I'd say shop around. Also, most places write a separate policy for bikes so you sometimes can't qualify for a multi policy discount or anything. Lame...
