Default Instrument panel wigging out

On my way home tonight I noticed the clock said 9:45 even though it was only 5. Sometime within the last few days it must have changed. When I went to adjust the clock I had a tough time. It seemed like the mode button would stick or not read at all. I'd press it lightly once and then it would run over until I pressed it again to stop the cycle.

I washed the bike over the weekend, could I've got water in the instrument panel? I had the seat and side panels off and got the battery and electrical wet. I only covered the snorkel opening. I also cut the kickstand wire over the weekend and spliced them together and wrapped them pretty good in electrical tape. Was it any of these things or could this be the beginning of the instrument panel going bad?

Take it to the dealer...warranty! Use it while you got it.

The warranty idea sounds good. Maybe you'll even get one that isn't out so far (calibration)

Battery and ground issues will cause your speedo to reset but not the problems you discribe, and mine is very water proof.

didn't have any problems with splicing the kickstand wires...i did disconnect the battery before i did it, so i had to set the clock afterwards...hmm...i don't think it's ever a good idea to hose down the battery or electrical wiring...

if you disconnected the battery, it would reset the clock...

Dash is waterproof, as in *rain*. I'm sure water with any sort of pressure behind it could breech the rubber switch boots. If you have warranty left - take it in. If not, it may be time to take the dash panel apart and use some contact cleaner on the switches.

I actually already had an appointment today at the dealership to do my 600 miles service and put on my front sprocket. They found a little moisture in the instrument panel (probably from Sunday's bath) but it worked fine for them. So I'll just continue to monitor it and if I see it happen again I'll take it back.
