Default Installing strobe and led brake light

Not sure how many have done this here
I did a quick search seems like you use just a whole new tail light to go led

I found a few different options for the stock one
This test ive done is not complete still waiting on one more led bulb, which is supposed to be twice as bright as the one im using now. Should be here tomorrow 1157 CAN Bus LED Bulb - Dual Intensity 27 SMD LED Tower | LED Brake Light, Turn Light and Tail Light Bulbs | LED Car Bulbs | Super Bright LEDs

Anyways the reason I went led was to use a strobe brake light pulser thing
Had one built into the tail light on another bike, liked how they work

I found this strobe for like $10 shipped which is a good price, just can only be used on led bulbs
Universal type
Brake Light Strobe Module | Emergency Vehicle & Strobe Lights | Truck/Trailer | Super Bright LEDs

With the 2 led bulbs I have now this one was the brightest

But lets wait until the brighter one comes in before making any orders on bulbs
This one is bright, but not a bright as stock if that matters to you
about half as bright

Took some pics of where I had to mount the strobe, its a large box
and it will power the stock bulb just flash very slow
and im not sure if the constant load would overheat the strobe
which is why you need led

and now I just sent my bike to a shop to have some work done on it
so now I cant try the new brighter bulb that comes in tomorrow
now starts the long wait

I did take light meter tests on the other bulbs so I can still do that, just hoping it puts out the 400+ lumens it claims to do
was hoping to have it in today just so I can finish this thread incase anyone else was interested in using the same bulb

well since I dont have my klx now, its in the shop getting a rack made for it I cant put this new led I received today into the housing
but I will say just glancing at 4 leds on one side of it has blinded me like looking into the sun

its has to be the brightest led lamp ive ever seen
has 26 led's on it

so im going to say if you want a cheap led alternative tailight go ahead and order this bulb
rated at 420 lumens

1157 CAN Bus LED Bulb - Dual Intensity 26 SMD LED Tower | LED Brake Light, Turn Light and Tail Light Bulbs | LED Car Bulbs | Super Bright LEDs

im sure it will be just fine, if the one I used on the video looked okay, this will blow it away

and I got the white version because we still need light for the license plate
if you get red, which may produce a better color your plate will shine red

Finally got to finish this thread
I got my bike back today and was able to test out the new can bus led bulb
it is brighter then the other ones I used, still not bright as stock compared to my light meter
but to my eye looks super bright, as bright as stock

as you can see by my chart, it is the brightest led bulb I tested
worth $25, yes
so I can use that brake light strobe

would I spend $25 on just the bulb alone
not sure
I do like how my plate has a nice crisp white light now but its still expensive
and hopefully it lasts
I think it has a warranty from the store but I will check

installed in housing brake light activated 12 inches
stock---980
single led---67
multi led---150
can bus---350

installed in housing brake light activated 24 inches
stock---280
single led---24
multi led---24
can bus---87

Mike, Thanks for taking the time to share your data/results. Seems like they should have a led 1157 that blows away incandescent by now. It must have something to do with the bulb/existing reflector interface. One thing for sure, I don't want my brake light any dimmer.

You may also be encountering the photopic/scotopic conundrum. The light meter measures photopic which doesn't fully account for how the eye perceives light. The lighting industry is somewhat recently coming to realize light measurement needs re-jiggered. http://www.innovativelight.com/led_f...otopic-vision/

Very, very nice. I have strobe brake lights, too. But it's an aftermarket tail light.

I will have to see what its like in direct sunlight as thats led's weakness
and get some pics stock and led bulb

maybe if anything the strobe will get someone attention first

took a bunch of pics in daylight
stock and led bulb
looks very similar especially directly looking at it

I would say its pretty much the same
at a more of a side angle you can see the led spots more but the bulb is longer then stock
but dead on its good
