I have a question about the Muzzy pipe. Now if im cheap and just want the slip-on version of this pipe will I need to re-jet the carb or can I just leave things the way they are??
Definitely. The stock muffler is so restrictive, that the Muzzy slip-on will definitely open things up. Bone stock, the bike is already pretty lean... unless you live at high altitude. IF you ride only over 5000 feet and you leave the stock airbox lid on, you might be OK.

My recomendation, spend the extra $100, get the full system and buy the jet kit. Then replace the airbox snorkle with the bigger KX one or just remove it.

Default Update on needle setting

UPDATE... I found out that I left out the washer that goes behind the clip. Doh! I was cleaning up this morning and suddenly realized that I had 3 wshers... the stock one AND the two from the kit... that meant none in the carbs.

I rode over 150 miles today ( completed the break-in) so now it's time for the first oil change and valve check. I'll make a new post for today's adventure.

I haven't done the aftermarket pipe thing ... yet, but from what I have read here and many other forums the header pipe is the thing that restricts the bike the most in the exhaust dept. Sounds to me that the muffler alone wont do a huge amout for the HP only the noise level

Help me out here. What washer? What clip? You mean the needle clip and the spacer that it holds on the needle?

Yes, that's the one, the spacer. Do you need to use at least 1 spacer? Either way, it seems a little better now.

I was confused because the OEM needle has no spacer (or clip, of course). The combination of the spacer and clip is what positions the needle in the holder. I'd be concerned without the spacer on top of the clip that the needle could move around a bit or would be too high.

Can you give me the details of the exhaust system you got from Muzzy?? Specifically, which web site, part number, cost, etc. I looked on the Muzzy site and all I can find are the following systems for 2006 KLX models, none of which list the KLX 250S:

1. 1014-00090 1997-2006 KLX-300 Stainless slip-on system w/aluminum canister 277.95
2. 1014-00087 1997-2006 KLX-300 Stainless exhaust system w/aluminum canister 427.95
3. 1014-00054 2003-2006 KLX,2003-2006 DRZ 400 Titanium exhaust system w/ovaltitanium canister 641.95

Or did you order the system for a bike other than a KLX.

Also, how did the system you ordered bolt up, excellent fit or did it need some mods to work?

Thanks for any help you can give me, the stock bike sounds terrible !

#2 is the correct system. I also ordered the spark arrestor and quiet core. I'ts still pretty loud with it in. I bought it from Starcycle.com I paid around $430 for the full system with SA and QC including shipping.

I just read anouther forum that the Muzzy slip-on pipe will be to short for our bike. Has anyone heard anything else on this subject. Let me know asap! I might have made a big boo boo by ordering it.
