You can use your fingers to compress the rings, one at a time as you slide the piston in. No need for hose clamps.

I used my fingers to compress the rings but wouldn't do it that way again, hose clamp or zip tie method is soooo much less frustrating.

Unfortunately I don't know of any inmates who live near you Dash8 but if you have limited mechanical skill, and take your time, it really isn't that difficult. Hardest part is cleaning the old base gasket off and keeping the crud from falling inside the engine.

My Carb is the same one Bill sells bought used from a buddy. Mikuni tm33-8012 that I sent to Bill to modify, he adds sleeves to both ends for fit and bores it to a 34, he also fixed my previously modified throttle linkage and jetted all for a ridiculously low price. He should be nominated for Sainthood!

You will need some Hi Temp Silicone for the exhaust joints and Ultra Gray gasket maker thinly applied for Valve Cover Gasket (I used on base gasket too) also.

Milton may need to invest in a new grader for the dirt roads that will be all torn up due to the rear tire spin you will now experience with every twist of the throttle! Enjoy. And yes I would never of attempted this on my own without this great site and all the terrific advice and information. This site Rocks!!!
