Congrats on the job!

I was just looking at this... it's an interesting list, lots of options out there...

I'm a little insulted they have the Super Sherpa at #4 and the KLX at #10 though!

I got the verbal "your in, we just need to do a secondary interview to meet the team" yesterday.
I just need to wait until next week to finish that and hopefully get the offer letter.

It has to be dual sport. I have a Dodge Ram with the Big Horn SLT+Sport package. It came with 20" Chrome wheels from the factory. When I drop the tailgate it is about mid torso level and I am 5'8". It was such a pain in the *** to put my KLX in the bed when I had to go places that it was really a 2 person job... I honestly think if I had to cart a bike every where, i probably would just not ride because of it.

We will see next week what happens. I know I dont want to spend 8 grand on a bike, so I geuss the KTM is out.

I cant wait to ride again.

Hopefully your new title isn't Vice President of Communications.

That also rules out the TE450 and TE510 which are $8300 & $8600 respectively. Close to ruling out the KLX450 and WR450F which are both $7500.

Might want to look at used. There are lots of good deals on used bikes out there. My buddy just bought a sweet, very low hour '07 KTM 525 loaded for $4800. A lot of folks that maybe don't ride them that much are selling in this tough economy. Good deals to be found.

Yea, I have been self employed since March, been landscaping. The quantity of jobs has not been enough to sustain my life style.

Don't buy new!! It makes no sense unless you're going to be grandma-driving it on the road only.

I just saw in local classifieds an 06 WR450. Guy got it new in 08 as a leftover, riden a handful of times.. Thing is MINT at $3,300!!

Sooo tempting.

If you're not concerned about the seat height of a DRZ, but concerned about the euro model bikes you're mistaken... I would farrr farrr more prefer wrestle my 525 through the woods than a DRZ400, they're heavy dualsport like the KLX.. Just a little chubby anyway. Now if I could get a XC-W 300 legal, damn I'd love that.. Or husaberg 450 or 570.. mmmmm.... DRZ isn't the only bike out there with more torque than the klx. I actually think I would prefer the KLX, especially with a big bore, over the drz.

buffalony,

In central WA. state, craigslist is chock full of great bikes going for little money. The economy, I guess. Don't buy new. . . . it's so much more fun to take out a bike that is already scratched up, a bike that someone else paid big bucks to modify. Try very hard to find a "dirt bike" that has been made street-legal. These bikes don't feel like a damn tractor and are, in fact, MUCH lighter than dual sport bikes. I rode a "street-legal" Honda CR250R last night and it made my KLX250S (much modified) feel like a tug boat! I've got my KLX on craigslist, right now. I know that everyone on this forum loves his KLX, but the KLX IS a tug boat. . . a heavy tug boat!
