I also have the black IMS tank, and love it! I carry a fuel bottle as well if I am venturing where I think I might need it, but so far I have never needed it.
The trick to filling the fuel bottles is to fill them out of a portable gas can, not straight from the nozzle at the gas station. I always have 5 to 10 gallons of gas at home in plastic gas cans, and it is easy to fill the fuel bottles with one of them...

man you guys are spoiled
this bike has a 1/2 gallon tank feeding a 140cc engine
im lucky to get past 35 miles before I need to fuel up
it got so bad I mounted a sub tank off the side of the bike to get me an extra 15 miles
now thats used as my reserve tank
although the mpg is pretty good if you calculate it, the amount it holds is horrible
and ive taken this bike on hundred plus mile rides

I much prefer the look of the black tank on the KLX. Utility has to go to the clear version with marks depicting the amount of fuel left in the tank. On my last KTM with a clear tank I could sometimes head out with only half a tank of gas cause I knew how much that ride would take and how much I had in the tank. For an old guy like me, lighter is righter when offroad.

I bought the Clarke 2.7 clear for my '07 and it does not look bad with the green shrouds. I can't imagine returning to the stock tank. While the clear doesn't look as sharp as the black, its much more practical. No more accidental overfills. While the Clarke is only
.7 gallon larger or so, that increase is a big difference for trip planning and piece of mind.
