+1, thats what I'm saying too. Perfect time to bring new life into that old jug and get more power too.

 

Agreed, if the bike is going to be torn down that far, why not try to scrounge up the cost to punch it out? After all, up to a point (and the 250 is no where near that point) there is no replacement for displacement to get more good reliable power. It was incredible what the simple big bore Vulcan 1500 piston swap did for my KLX650, putting it out to a 678. Makes me wonder just how strong a good 300-350 overbore would do on one of those 250s, with a pipe and carb swap. I remember when selling the KLX300s back in the early 2000s, the trick we had understood to make them really run well was a bigger pipe and a flat slide carb to open up the breathing - it was like $450 retail. Ebay would possibly make that at least $100 less.

 

i'd send it back. with ebay buyer protection, the buyer has all the power. i sold a perfect DSLR camera, and the buyer did not know WTF she was doing with it. after 44 days she filed a claim with ebay, saying the camera was bad. even though i had tons of perfect photos taken with the camera, and proved there was nothing wrong with it, she WON!! AND she sent it back with a huge scratch in the LCD panel....

 

I have to say it again: send it back!

$205 with shipping included is way too much to pay for a KLX cylinder with an unusable bore. $100-$125 core value seems fairly reasonable for these engines. A cylinder with a useable bore, then maybe closer to $200. After replating that cylinder, you'll be into it for at least $180 on top of what you already paid - that's if you go back to stock bore. Bore/plate jobs cost more yet.

For reference, Bill Blue has a $175 core charge. One of the replating places near Madison, where I bought my replated KLX300 cylinder from, was offering $125 for a core return. I've watched a number of KLX250 & KLX300 cylinders sell on ebay in the $100-$150 range (with pistons), and they appeared to be usable as-is.

You can buy a brand new KLX300 cylinder for $342 and change - shipping included.

Like others have said - eBay buyer protection will guarantee you get your money back if your case is valid, and yours most certainly is.

Whatever you decide to do, good luck with it.

 

I would return it. Send them a nice letter saying it has a scratch the length of the cylinder and its un usable. Use the words "Negative feedback" you will get results. If you don't try, you will never know.

I think most of those people value their reputation on Ebay far more than one part.

Bill may BUY it off you Just ask him.

What ever you do, go for the BIG BORE Its the best money I spent on my bike.

I already did that to my bike this winter. I have an 80mm bore now. I have 2 other friends looking to do the same to their KLXs. It was an impulse buy thinking it wasn't going to last long on ebay before someone else got it. Now that I see you can take a stock 250 cylinder and bore it just the same, there's no reason for me to dink around with this. I have the OEM cylinder off my bike I can do that to.

I sent the guy an email. We'll see what happens. I might just do the buyer protection thing and make this guy take it back if he dicks me around.

 

Bill Blue is usually short of cylinders.

 

I sent bill blue my cracked 331cyl along with the piston. He gave the piston a clean bill of health. Piston looked perfect to me. I recomend asking bill to fit it into this cyl. Should be decent price without cost of piston and core charge. I had ordered a 351 kit and waited for it to come in before I tore the bike down. Since I did not know if the problem was a blown head gasket or worse I ordered a 331 head gasket to be sent with the 351 kit I had ordered. I have no use for The 331 head gasket I could mail it to you if you want to go that route.

Should be decent price without cost of piston and core charge.

 

Not a bad idea. I might take you up on that. Where can a person get a piston?
