Default I destroyed my chain guide

The sprocket crunched it to death and dislodged the chain off. Dumb move on my part forgetting to secure it.

I might be able to salvage it and superglue the plastic together. I was pretty pissed and all I cared about was getting the chain back on the sprocket and out of there.

Any aftermarket options?

As stated Moose makes one and so does BRP. They are listed for the KLX300 and both are much better than the stocker. I have gotten both from the TT Store at a little discount. They don't show the BRP on their website but can get them. Dennis Kirk also sells the Moose.

Thanks guys. What are the ramifications for running on street with no guide?

Also, the Moose looks nice, but wouldn't the metal rub on the sides?

There seems to be a chain roller above the swingarm near the front sprocket...what's that for?

I went Werewolf hunting again last night, with the 17" street wheels. Pretty awesome and no issues with the chain guide, though we stuck to Class 1-3 or so off-road so nothing TOO intense. The guy I ride with said that the chain guide shouldn't really be an issue unless you're going over terrain that makes the chain go up and down quite a lot, like washboard or big jumps and such.

I did have problems with it rubbing but others had no issues. All I had to do was use some washers to widen the whole thing a bit and it works fine. As far as running without a chain guide goes I think you'll run the risk of the chain jumping off the rear sprocket.

If you wad the chain up between the c/s sprocket & swingarm pivot out in the sticks and you'll wish you didn't. Rolling the bike backwards after you break the chain & put it on the rear sprocket or pulling the swingarm pivot bolt isn't any fun. Dont ask how I know....

Thanks for the help. I ended up ordering from RMATV Fredette Chain Guide Blue - 2007 Kawasaki KLX300 Part# 1006750003

Sucks because it only came in blue. $40. Meh...

CHECK YOUR BOLTS/SCREWS AFTER MAINTENANCE!!!!!

The Fredette and Moose are the same except the Moose is silver instead of blue.
