They better honor the warranty. Its under warranty, right? If its one those being recalled, it should be covered.

Now it makes me want to check mine, just in case.

fingers crossed they honour the warranty when I pick it up this afternoon...
How did you get on?
What dealer?

Update!

Got it back. No problem with warranty, they phoned kawasaki, and its a known fault that can occur. Looking at you have to wonder what the good people at Kawasaki were thinking when they designed that bit...

Here's some picts of the temporary repair job they did. Have to go back to them early next year to get it reinforced. Hopefully you can see what happened there...

The break was on the thinner metal circle around the bolt, just above the weld where the stand joins on.

Coming from a professional fabricators standpoint I can say thats pathetic. Setting aside the factory misstep, a temporary fix? There is no such thing. If you break something, then take the time to weld it, you weld it right. That would take all of five minutes to do.....if that. And they didn't even remove the old paint and apply new. Its all flaking off. And that weld looks like a chicken had diarrhea and ran across it.

It wouldn't surprise me if that broke again, look how much undercut there is.

Check the other posts man!!! They should be replacing the frame!! This is bull****e.
This is about the third or fourth case of this happening. What is the serial number of your bike? Maybe it is a bad production run, but that is a really important part of the frame there what with the swingarm pivot and all.

Thats terrible.. They should be ashamed to give you back something like that. If you get in an accident because of that, then what happens.... That's just unsafe man.

This problem isn't unheard of on the '09's. I'm happy to hear that they're honoring the warranty.

It's probably due to a factory machine not properly calibrated and it spat out a batch of these things with poor weld jobs.

It's like getting a dozen hot dog rolls that the machine just cut half-way. I hate when that happens.

The problem is they shouldn't be welding all of that leverage to a piece of 14 awg circular steel sticking out 3/8s of an inch away from anything.

Thats sad.

Look, its still broke.

There's a recall over this?

Dude I would NOT be riding on that. I'm not a welder but I can tell a shoddy job when I see it. You probably shouldn't alienate your dealer from Kawasaki corporate, but the bigwigs should take a look at that photo. I wouldn't stand for it.

What exactly does "reinforced" mean? Judging by their welding skills (or lack thereof), I wouldn't be too hopefull. I've seen better tack welds. Personally, I wouldn't have taken the bike back until it had a new frame.

I hope they don't pull something on you, like "we tacked the kickstand back on, that IS the fix.", then keep the warranty money for the all of the labor it should have taken to fix it right.
