How wide can I go with tires?

How wide can I go with tires?
I tried searching around but didn't quite come up with the answer. (or maybe I just suck at searching)
How wide can I go with my front and rear tires? I'm hoping to gain a little more on-road stability.
Can anyone recommend a good knobby tire combination for someone who rides mostly street but also likes to ride trails? Price is not a concern.

Kenda K270 is a good 50/50 tire, you won't be cornering on the asphalt at 60, but it will get you around most trails. I believe some have put on the 130 tire, but really I heard that there are issues with rubbing on some tires.

Thanks, guys!

Yeah it was an epic nightmare squeezing the 120/90 D606 on my stock back rim. Hard to say how much street-ability the 110/100 K760 Trakmaster gives up because with this Pirelli front I'm afraid to pull half the street turns I would before. If you REALLY wanna do it you can get a 120 on there.

cliffsta, have you ever tried a DOT Pirelli MT21 on the front? I think they may be about the gripiest DOT tire going. They're a little soft for the rear as far as wear mileage, but for a front tire I think they work extremely well. I've used a 3.25 X 21 on the front of a heavy KLR650 and my KLX, and the thing sticks about as good as a decent street tire on pavement and works excellently off road. I've pushed this tire hard in Colorado mountain twisty roads, and it's hard to believe the bite it gets for an aggressive knobby. I use the TrakMaster for the rear.
One other thing on the KLX that I've found is that I'm not sure it needs that big a rear tire for good off road performance. It's no horsepower monster even with a big bore kit, and the bigger the rear tire gets, the gearing and acceleration snap get soft IMO.

The trackmasters seem to wear out fast on the streets. If your looking for more dirt than street tires, and jonny law isn't up on checking for the dot stamp, I would go with straight off road tires. I have been using non-dot for 2 years now. They wear on the streets about as good as trackmasters(some better) and are way better inthe dirt.

I've always been told that a diamond pattern front tire is the best to get, verses a pattern where the blocks are all in a row. I'm just gonna SERIOUSLY curtail my street riding... I'm putting far too many miles on this little bike as it is. I"m just gonna stick to trails and gravel roads, and only ride pavement TO the trails and gravel roads lol...
