How to Test LED

How to Test LED
I just made a license plate bracket ala Lord Vngr. I used a triple LED module for the license plate light and I just wired it right into the same wires that had gone to the stock light. For some reason, it is not lighting up. I cut the wires and rewired the stock light and it lights up fine. I then reconnected the LED module and still nothing.
It looks to me like either the module is bad or there is something that prevents directly replacing a regular bulb with an LED module. All I know is that an LED draws less power. Does that affect anything?
Is there a way to test the LED offline? Can I connect it directly to a battery or something?
Thanks,
Chris

RE: How to Test LED
An LED is a diode, so current can only flow in one direction. If it is hooked up backwards it will not light, unlike an incandescant bulb which doesn't care which way it is hooked up. Try reversing the wires, or if you can, the bulb.
BTW, is your LED module designed for a bulb replacement application? Or did you simply wire in a couple of LEDs in series or parallel? I ask because if the latter, you will need to limit the resistance otherwise the LEDs will try to draw too much current and burn themselves out. But if it is a bulb replacement product, then that should already have the required resistors in it already.

Well, gentlemen, you nailed it. Reversed the leads and I'm in business. Thanks a million.
I am pretty pleased with how the rear end rework ended up. I will post pics tomorrow or Monday.
You guys are a great resource.

I'll make it a point to check that out. I'm about to get to business with LED's myself. Just finsished intalling heated grips, so I'm much more familiar with access to and layout of the wiring on this scoot.
