Default How much oil can you see in the window?

I just got my bike back from getting it's first service last week, I've done about 200 - 300 km's on it and it's running good.

But I looked in the oil window near the rear brake lever a minute ago and after riding the bike for about 45 minutes and at idle I can only just see the oil at the bottom of the window....

Have they put enough oil in it? Or is it in desperate need of some more oil?

Drain it and change it. An oil change is cheap, and dealer mechanics are stupid. I wouldn't put it past them to put only a cup of oil in there to save some $$$.

You have to let the oil drain back out of the engine. It could be almost five minutes before it looks full again. Look at it again in the morning again, if it doesn't fall between those two little lines you've got a problem. It really should be towards the top one.
If it appears that they F*c#e@ you do it yourself. A filter should be less than Ten dollars US and if it's your first oil change you might want to keep the oil non-synthetic, people say it's better for the brake in. If you're past break in go for synthetic, either way should be less then twelve bucks a liter and our little bikes only take 1.5 liters max. Spend the money on a Torque wrench, should be about forty-fifty dollars and the owners manual has a great step by step instruction on how to. The wrench pays for itself after about 3 oil changes and you really need it on a few other applications for the bike.

like has been said already, it takes a while to drain back down... but also you have to stand the bike up vertical, with it on its kickstand no oil is in the window at all... so make sure its straight up...

Ok I'll check it out in the morning and probably invest in a torque wrench this week and service manual... I've been thinking to myself that I really need to get a bit more involved in the maintenance of this bike, so this looks like a good way to start.

good luck man, and have fun..... words of wisdom from my dad who is a auto mechanic, "So you do everything yourself and save a ton of money on hourly wages and have the piece of mind of doing it yourself.... dont get so mad when you break something yourself, your still saving money by doing it all, so what if you have to spend a little on parts that YOU broke...." I tend to break things when im working... the worst i think that happened to my dad was he had a caviler and went to change the spark plugs, easy job right? Well one of the spark plugs broke off in the head, then he broke off an easy out in the spark plug....so spark plugs turned into buying a whole new head for the motor..... he was kinda upset.... lol

With the bike running you won't see any oil, the oil pump keeps it circulated. It can be kinda tricky to balance the bike and look into the sight glass so I usually get it close to balanced then prop it against my knee when I squat down to check the level.

Ya I forgot to mention the vertical part.
For the oil you actually don't even need the service manual, the owners manual has a great step by step with photo's and all.
