On my 2009 KLX250SF with approximately 400 miles on the ODO and Two Brothers exhaust, I need to switch over to reserve at about 80-90 miles. Before the TBR I would need to switch over at 90-100 miles. Dynojet kit is in my future so I wonder what will happen then with my mileage. I'll comment that my SF is REALLY cold-blooded. I have to let it idle for a while to get going in the morning. So I'm burning more fuel than probably most.

I can't complain except I wish the tank was 2.5-3.0 gallons in size. It's still nice to fill up for less than $10.

Lately? 62 mpg last tank full. Before that and a carb adjustment, 48 mpg.

I am expecting 60+ mpg like I used to get when it was stock. I have done a lot to the bike, last thing was go to 15-39 gearing and down to a P6 needle jet in the tm36-68 carb. Not much left to do but ride.

09 stock: 100 miles before reserve, then 30 more until bone dry...

What is the "FI rev limiter" and how do you remove it? Does a 09 have one?

I own a 2009 klx 250s. I ride every day to and from work. I fill up every friday. it cost $8.15 up here in Canada where i live from empty if your curious. Anyways My bike is empty at 130KM (80Miles) If i go beond this i have to go to reservve. However, i always fill up at 120KM (75miles). I have almost never had to switch to reserve by following this practice.

hope this helps

Hey Craig,

I have a D-Tracker which is a KLX250SF with fuel injection and black front forks. The ECU has a rev limiter that doesn´t allow the engine to go past 8000 rpm, which also limits top speed.
When I brought it in for the first 1,000km service, I asked them to disconect the rev limiter. Now I can hit redline and the engine feels better across the rpm curve.

I wonder why the KLX uses a carb and not EFI, in the US.

Ya never know. I was getting as low as 48 mpg. I then switched to the p6 needle jet and 15 tooth and it went up to 62 mpg and the last tank was 108 miles 1.8 gallons ($7.00) of fuel.

I commute 18 miles each way mostly at 62 mph.
